My guess is that it's the fake one. There have been loads on eBay. I'd only buy a 500 from a recognised distributer personally. Other models are OK, as there haven't been any clones created AFAIK.

The remotes look different on the fake ones and it also has the new hologram which has only been in use since January. Its either a bloody good copy or a genuine one. :?

Mind you he does have negative feedback stating

"WARNING!!!!TOTAL RIP OFF. NOT GEUINE !!! RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF !!!!!!!!! for a pair of ADIDAS Y3 BOXING TRAINERS YOHJI YAMAMOTO UK 8"

This would put me off straight away. TBH if you going to buy a new one pay the bit extra and get it from an authorised Deambox retailer. My 7020 cost me about £50 more than i could have got it off ebay for but to be honest i know i have the back up and guarentee that you only get from an authorised dealer so the extra £50 didn't even come into my decision of buyin it from where i did

Trust me mate once you have one and you have figured out how to use it, its extremely easy to justify the £300+ price tag

You could also keep an eye out on ebay for a second hand 7000 :?

I even managed to convince the wife my 7020 was a good buy Theres no complaining from her now when she sets herself infront of the TV at 10.15pm everynight for House on Fox (D+ 19.2)

The old VM c@ble box doesn't even get a look in now. So much so i have had to re route all the wires so it can be used in the bedroom now instead of the living room. I knew that 100m roll of CT100 i had lying about would come in useful

They're not much to look at, but are well built. Metal chassis, quality plastic/flap/slots at the front, good (large) LCD display, and all the connectors at the back are of acceptable quality.

Remote is tough enough and copes well with all the functions it has to accommodate. Doesn't eat batteries either. Seems to be based on a generic shell, as I've seen loads of other remotes that look very similar. Video and audio quality is very good - menus are crisp and clear too.

Menus are laid out logically, and the manual is not bad at all.

Doesn't seem to get particularly hot, and is pretty quiet if you choose the correct HDD.

I only know of a few people who weren't impressed with the Dreambox 7xxx - one was an idiot who was always going to moan about it, two or three that just couldn't make it work (not technical enough), one who had a bad experience with two 7025's failing within a week, someone who bought a dodgy second-hand 7000 off eBay and someone who swapped theirs for a 500 because it was too big :?

Or something like that

I've got a 40GB 7200 rpm Western Digital WD400BB drive in mine. You can hardly hear it unless you put your ear right upto the box., even when your using the timeshift facility (record & watch at the same time) you still can't hear it

The Dreambox will always open everything that's 'publicly' hacked - i.e. where both the code and the keys are known - as opposed to a commercial hack where the team have re-encrypted the hack and sold it on. This is usually in the form of a programmable smart card, but can also take the form of firmware for either a CAM or a receiver.

In real terms, you'll get TPS in addition to what your Comag can do, plus all the other odds and sods that are open.

The Linux receivers are very flexible. Not only can they concurrently carry every hack (unlike many receivers and CAMs, due to memory restrictions) but there are many teams actively writing for these STBs so they're about a future-proof as you can get.

The Dreambox also allows you to cardshare of course - so you can watch just about any channel you like as long as you purchase and share a legitimate subscription card and can find a group to take you in.

As for the EPG, the Dreambox is as good as any other non-Sky offering. It will display whatever the broadcaster makes publicly available. There are also plugins which supplement that info with listing data from the web.

is the dm 500s the best one to start with as i'm looking to get one, never used linux before will that matter ?

i already have a technomate which i patched so getting a dreambox be pointless ?

if the dreambox software can emulate encryptions then can it work like a diablo/trex cam then and do not just public hacks but commerical hacks through update files like the cams do ?

is there a dm600s coming out thats a pvr as seen it on some website
