Default directv lnb with a dish receiver

I had directv and am going to install dish system. Is my direct tv satellite dish and lnb compatible with a dish receiver #301? Thanks,

To be honest mate I'm not sure anyone here could answer that with a definite yes or no. I don't think there are that many people here that have a lot of experience with the American Systems. :?

The only difference between the 2 systems is the actual Broadcast Standards. DirecTV uses the DSS System (Videoguard Encrypted Digital Satellite System) and Dish Network use the DVB system (Nagravision Encrypted Digital Video Broadcast)

Both systems are very similar in structure but unfortuantely are completely incompatible with each other

Both systems receive signals from more or less the same satellites using mostly KU Band with L & R Circular polarization so there should be no theoretical reason why the two systems shouldn't be able to receive a signal from either a DirecTv or Dish Network lnb setup.

The only problem you may encounter is if you try to receive a signal from AMC 15 @ 105w as all transmissions from this satellite are broadcast using Horizontal and Vertical polarization not L or R Circular. You may be able to pick up a H or V signal with the circular polarized lnbs but the signal will be more or less cut in half straight away

Its a similar thing i encountered trying to pick up a signal from Astra 1 @19.2e with an old BSB Squarial. The old BSB system used DMAC (analogue) Right hand circular polarization. With a bit of playing i did manage to pick up a vertical polarized Digital signal with it although the signal was only at 52% when it should have been around 80%. Have a look in the Retro Techno section it may explain things a bit better.

Sorry i couldn't give you a definate answer as i'm not totally clued up with the American systems. To be honest all you can do is try it and see what happens
