Default Satellite TV for foreign husband

Yes this time it's the other way round.

I followed my other half to her native France. We're having a house built (it's cheap to do that here) and we had a meeting with the builders last week. I asked for satellite plugs to be put in bedroom and living room so that I can hook up to BBC FTA.

The problem is, I've just found out that where we're moving to, there's no aerial reception for local French TV, so we'll have to use a French satellite to get TF1, France 2 etc.

Should I ask the builders to put two satellite plug sockets behind the TV in the lounge or is there a way to have two different satellite feeds down one wire and out of one plug socket into the back of one TV? I presume I'll need two decoders given that BBC FTA is digital and French TV, at least until 2012 is analogue. Am I right?

I'm sorry if my questions are basic. I am a complete novice when it comes to satellite TV.

Thanks!

You are going to need 2 separate feeds - the French stuff is on Atlantic Bird 3 at 5W and the UK stuff is at 28E

Thus 2 dishes and separate kit

Hope you dont mind but Im moving this to the foreign spouse section - thenj all the info is kept together!

Thanks analoguesat for your speedy reply.

So that obviously means two dishes and two sets of wires down to two satellite sockets behind the TV into two different decoders.

Could you just confirm that for me.

Thanks again!

Hi Freddie

I am NO expert, but I think Analog has got it wrong (Oh Horror) sorry Analog I know you know your stuff but there is a simple solution..............one stb, 90cm Dish, single lnb, Stab motor, now Freddie can get both French and UK TV and thousands of other channels, it is amazing what you can get with a motorised system.

Freddie if you need further info just ask.

PS. I have a motorised system here in the the UK and I get french TV no problem.

Hope this helps

Bonne Chance

Of course Im not wrong

I KNOW you can motorise - I was keeping it as simple as possible - and I was assuming there was a decent chance he wanted to use Sky and the Froggie stuff together on different TV's at the same time - then he would still need 2 dishes. Seeing as the discussion was over a month ago I assume Freddie was happy with the answers I gave him.

Motorised satellite dishes are ok if its just one person wanting to use the kit - its no use whatsoever if the family wants different programmes at the same time.
