A new community TV station on broadband for the Outer Hebrides is on schedule to launch in July after receiving an £80,000 grant from the European Union, the Western Isles Council and Western Isles Enterprise. Sheep farming is a major industry in the Western Isles, so the channel, officially called Hebrides TV, has already been dubbed “Ewe Tube” by locals.

Councillor Angus Nicolson told the Sunday Mail: ”It will reflect the fullness and richness of life in the Western Isles. I know that some people are planning to stream images of their best sheep. Lamb from these islands is among the best in the world - why shouldn’t we show it off?”

A spokesman for Stornoway-based company ReefNet, who are managing the project, said: “At the moment we want to find out what is out there and what people want to see. The scheme is to be given a celebrity launch and will be broadcasting round the clock worldwide from July. ”
