Default In Line Amplifiers


Has anyone experienced the use of the in line amplifiers ,as on the Maplins web site ,do they really help??

I have tried them but unless you have a powered version, the signal quality suffers. You dont get anything for nothing.

They will not boost the signal received from the satellite itself, rather they will amplify everything at the intermediate frequency (IF), so it's only of any use if you have a really long cable run, and are experiencing losses along the coax itself.

There is some debate as to whether they work better nearer the dish or part-way along the coax, but either way they are not the great panacea they might appear to be.

It helped with my Sky setup, but that was due to a long c@ble run

They are a double edged sword as not only do they amplify the signal they also amplify any background noise as well

I noticed that although there was a significant increase in signal strength the signal quality near enough stayed where it was before the amplifier was installed

Thankyou Guys for the great help ,it is very much appreciated,I will take a look at the powered versions and see what they want in scheckles for them,I assume that you cannot use the standard tv amplifier which I have on my terrestial tv etc.
