US TV network NBC and Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation have unveiled plans to create a video-sharing website.
The site, which is not yet named, will launch this summer offering full episodes and clips from shows including Heroes, 24, House, My Name Is Earl and The Simpsons for free on an ad-supported basis. Films will also be available including Borat, Little Miss Sunshine and The Bourne Identity. AOL, MSN, MySpace and Yahoo! will be distribution partners for the site and will feature its content through customised embedded players. Users will also be able to create personalised video playlists and have access to a search facility. President and chief operating officer of News Corporation, Peter Chernin, said: "This is a game changer for Internet video. We're excited about the potential for this alliance and we're looking forward to working with any content provider or distributor who wants to take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity."
