Three boxes stand out for me, one based on value for money, one based purely on price, and one on blind-scanning power.

Firstly the Technomate TM1000D Super. Just such a well specified box, great after-market support and a pretty reasonable scanning engine. Not the best at anything but a great allrounder with good A/V and a price tag of around £60. Top tip - make 100% sure it's the Super version you end up with before splashing the cash.

At the cheap end of the scale, you won't find any better than the Comag (AKA Silvercrest) SL65 - a budget machine sold periodically at Lidl, and all year round on eBay :

Again, a reasonable blind scan capability, but maybe not as polished as the Technomate. Has a slightly cheap look and feel, but don't be fooled - this is not a box to snigger at.

Best Blind scanner? Not expensive either, the Vantage X2 series boxes (there is a whole range of these receivers - some blind-scan and some don't) have a blind-scan performance which is stunning. They can be had at even more competitive prices directly from German online stores like hm-sat.de from around €80. Fast, accurate, flexible scans. The build quality looks good too, though I've never actually had my hands on one.

The Phoenix Apollo is a good box also, similar to the Techno. The Dreamboxes are not the obvious choice for this type of role. The TM7755 is a Technomate, but is eclipsed by the 1xxx series IMHO.

HTH

Vantage VT-X221S CI i'm thinking of buying one as the dr dish review was very good and its a winner in the cabsat awards this year that was showing on the channel

its apparently the fastest blind scan receiver to date and can blind scan in even 1mhz steps

theres also the fortec star ultra range with a power scan and also the manhattan plaza st range
