Default I want to add FTA system as well as Sky

Hi,

This is my first post I wonder if anyone can help. I have a sky minidish and receiver, and I want to add another receiver in the bedroom for Free to Air Channels on either Hotbird 13 or Astra 19 degrees, could I change the LNB on my sky dish for a Quad LNB, and point one one of the LNB's at one of the Satellites mentioned, also with the sky minidish being so small, would it pick up a signal and channels from either satellite position Hotbird 13 or Astra 19 degrees. I hope someone will be able to help me. Many thanks.

Hi peteblue,
welcome to the forum. It is very doubtful, using a sky mini dish, although the satellites you have mentioned are powerful you would be better off with a larger dish, and trying to get 28.2E, 19.2E and 13E off one dish requires a bit of work.
I would suggest you leave the mini dish, for sky, and get a 60-80cm dish, and either 2 LNB's, a monobloc, or even a motor to pick up 19.2E and 13E.
The reason I mention getting a motorised system is that like the rest of us you might start out thinking of receiving a few FTA channels but once you get started you will soon want to pick up everything available
Have a read through our beginners guide and think about what you would like to receive and a budget and we will do our best to advise you with your future purchases.

I second that. Leave the minidish alone and throw up another dish for exploring the skies

Did you want to watch anything in particular, or just sample what else is up there?

The Technomate TM1xxx receivers are a very good choice, but there are many others to consider. Do you definitely only want FTA?

Hi, Thanks for the information, would a 60cm dish be big enough to pick up the channels on either of those satellites, also as well I know someone who wants to sell me his Topfield TF5000ci receiver because he is upgrading, can anyone tell me if this is a good receiver to get started in the world of satellite tv. Many thanks

60cms is about as small as you should go, but yes - it will pull in the major satellites OK, just not some of the more 'exotic' stuff.

The Topfield TF5000ci is a very nice little receiver, and would be great as a starter box. If you can get it for £50, then you've done OK. It's a great looker too

60cm can pick up 19.2 and 13 with more or less no problems.

I think the old Sky dishes used to be 60cm and they were pointing at 19.2 were they not?

Yes they were, so 13E and 19.2E should be no problem.
