If you don't want to pay 7xxx prices, get the 500. The 600 could be ages in appearing, although there is a Boxman CVS image knocking about for it.

well i'm interested in the dreambox 500 as it was cheap and wanted something to play around with so gonna get one to start off with

I don't think you'll be disappointed, and you can always upgrade later if you get bitten by the bug. It will resell well too, so no great risk.
