Default Fortec Star Help Needed

I have a Fortec Star Innovative 5000 that has an ethernet port for downloading the codes from the internet. The guy that installed it said after he updated it by pressing 9906 on the remote it would update automatically. One week later it does not work, the main problem seems to be coming from the internet connection on my receiver is showing not connected.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be, i am using a D-Link router which is showing it is connected but on the receiver no go.

Hi catmad, welcome to the forum

I know nothing about this receiver, but may be able to make a few suggestions if you can give me some information.

First off, can you tell me the IP address of your Fortec Star, and the IP address of your router.

Can you then tell me exactly how your network is connected together, i.e. what components you have and what sort of cabling/wireless connections?

Do you have any software running on the PC that you use to communicate with the Fortec?

Can you post any pictures of the network setup menus?

Hi Stick,

The IP address in the Fortec is not shown i have found a way to access the menu (which is not listed in the instructions) and you can the set the IP details to Static IP.

I have set IP 192.168.1.8 SM 255.255.255.0 DG 192.168.1.1 and DNS 213.42.20.20.
I then can ping this address from my computer and it finds it, but still shows not connected. I don't have any software on my pc to access the Fortec and wasn't given any at the time of installation.

I have an ADSL line going to an ADSL+2 wirless router and have my computer and the sat pluged in by cable.

I'll take pics of the menus if that will help. I'll do this later when i get home.

By the way i'm trying to get Eurosport in english, on Hotbird all i get is audio but no video, but this guy managed to get it via turkish sat. I live in Dubai and we don't get Eurosport here and the sat guys want to charge you everytime they come to your house even though they only fitted the system one month ago.

I take that 192.168.1.1 is IP of your router, right? Try to setup DNS to this address as well.
I am not familiar with FortecStar (apart from some crazy PVR experience) but are you sure you don't need to open some ports on your router for STB? Try to define it as DMZ machine and see what happens.

My guess would be that your networking is setup correctly. Is there any other information, particularly in the 'CS' menu that you have changed or removed? I'm guessing that the 'connection' might be a failed cardsharing connection, and that doesn't surprise me, as there appear to be any host/peer data. It may never have been setup.

Do you have a subscription card in the receiver at all?

Can you give us details of the Eurosport channel which you have lost video on, like frequency and polarisation?

You’re getting audio-only on Hotbird? Which ‘Turkish’ satellite were you finding Eurosport working OK? Do you have the frequency and polarisation of that channel?

What happens if you type the Fortec's IP address ( 192.168.1.8 ) into your web browser?

Login to your router (192.168.1.1 I guess ) then click on Advanced on top of the page. Then click on DMZ on the left (roughly in the middle of left column).

In the main window, select Enabled. Then type in Fortec Star's IP in 'IP Address'.
Press Apply.

Now press Tools tab on top. Select System on the left. In main window select 'Save Settings and Reboot'. This is required step for DMZ to be activated.

If after all this your receiver still won't be able to get to Internet then there is some problem beyond your network.
