Default SilverCrest SL 65 and motorised dish setup

Hello,
I am a gadget person, 62 years old and really do want to get my satellite system running, even ia, as my wife says, "it's all too complicated" I have just checked this post and yes, I have got it in the wrong section, Please forgive?
I have installed a motorised dish with SG-2100A motor. I don't think my receiver can get Thor so I don't really know how to align the dish. At present it receives Atlantic Bird wth the motor set to "0" I need to know how to set the dish correctly for Lon 3:28:10W and Lat 51:12:11W. I have set the elevation to 39 and the Declination to 30 - 7.4.
If I try to move the dish via the receiver it seems to loose all the channels or will get A Bird when set to another satellite. If I go to USALS it instantly starts to move the dish and I find it hard to get bach to a satellite. After two days up and down the ladder I am beginning to wish I had never started. The receiver handbook says nothing about setting up DiSEqC.
Any help would be fantastic. I'm not even sure if I asm putting this posting in the right place!!!

Hello barrie1. Welcome to the forum

If you're a gadget person, I'm sure you're not going to let a little thing like this get the better of you

Your wife will be seriously impressed when you're done

What size dish do you have? Setting up on 5W will be as good as 1W for you given your longitude.

What sort of signal strength and quality are you getting, and on which channels?

With the figures you mention, you'll not be far off, so just a little more patience required.

Also, have a careful read of our motorised setup guide here[/u].

Stick with us. We'll get you sorted

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

I have a 80cm dish. Thge signal strength is 77 and 70 quality on BBC World.. If I clear all channels on the receiver and then re-scan it scans whatever satellite I tell it to but gets the same A bird channells. I am afraid to turn the motor in casi I loos what I have got, the SL 65 book doesn't tell me enough about setup.

OK, you don't need to be too worried about losing the channels you have. The receiver can only drive the motor east and west, but it can't change the elevation. You would just need to use DiSEqC 1.2 to inch the dish backwards and forwards until you locate the satellite again.

Now, I don't believe that BBC World transmits on Atlantic Bird 3 at 5W, so what I believe you have there is in fact Thor. Can you give me the frequency and polarisation of BBC as you see it, and I can confirm that.

This could well be the source of all your problems, and it's easy to fix.

Hi again,
The receiver doesn.t list Thor but here are the details of BBC World.
A\BIRD3\5WEST
11432 V 27491
V A PCR 516 690 132

Many thanks
Barrie

OK, now I'm confused

There is no such transponder on either Thor 1W or Atlantic Bird 5W, so I think you're in a bit of a pickle!

Not to worry.

Did you read our guide?

Can you tell me what the reading is on the scale under the output shaft on the motor?

Are you sure that the frequency you gave me is correct? Are you definitely watching BBC world - i.e. regardless of what channel the receiver thinks it is, is it BBC World on the screen?

What do you get if you manually scan 11325 H 27500 7/8, and also 11591 V 20000 2/3?

What other channels can you actually view on-screen?

What satellites DOES your receiver list around the 1W mark?

Can you post any pictures of your dish setup?

Sorry for all the questions (please try and answer them all) - you can be sure there will be plenty more as well!

There is a BBC World on Hotbird 13E, 11432 H 27500, if you scan for further channels it would help us identify the satellite more easily.

That's got to be it Mickha

At 13E, you're a long way from 'Home' Barrie. I guess you're in the middle of answering all my questions, but it looks like the motor mounting needs to be swung towards the West 18 degrees if you're going to setup on Atlantic Bird 3.

Let's have the answers anyway, and take it from there.

1. The output shaft is on "0"
2. Definately BBC World
3. LNB Freq 9750 10600
4. Symbol Rate 27491
5. Pol V
6. DiSEq 1.2
7. Video PID 0516...Audio PID 0690...PCR POID 8191...SUB PID 8191
8. Version 1084h-B65GB
The instruction book lists Hotbird 13E, Turksat 42E, Sirius 5E, Amos 4W, ASTRA 28E, EutelSatW3A 7E, A Bird3 5W (fruher France Telecom), HispaSat 30W, HellasSat 39E.

I will try setting the frequencies as you say, that's if I can find out how to set them.
I will try to get some dish pics.

many thanks again
If I scan any of the above satellites without moving the dish I get the same channels, At present it is showing about 500 channels for TV FREE.
