Default Re: Triple LNB ?

I've decided on a fixed dish with a multi-LNB bracket (with 3-4 LNBs). I know which satellites I'm aiming for, and previous posts have been very helpful in suggesting how to tackle the job.

Now comes the technical side of things:

I would like the system to feed two separate receivers (one at each end of the house) controlling completely separate pictures. I think I know the set-up but can I get some sort of confirmation (or otherwise) from you guys?

This is how I see it:

1. Install the dish and multi bracket
2. Fit four twin LNBs (i.e. each with two outputs)
3. Fit two DISEqC switches (A and B), each one with four inputs and one output
(I don't really know what these look like ... are they solid-state, just waiting to be connected?)
4. Connect (with F connectors) one output of LNB1 to Input1 of DISEqC-A,
then the other output of LNB1 to Input1 of DISEqC-B
5. Corresponding connections from LNB2, LNB3 and LNB4 to DISEqC switches A and B
6. Run cable from output of DISEqC A to receiver A
7. Run cable from output of DISEqC B to receiver B

Does that sound correct?

Or should I be thinking of one of these new (and expensive) Multiswitches I've seen at Satellite Superstore:
_http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/multiswitch.htm
I hope not - but it's as well to learn the truth at an early stage.

STICK, I tried to find my way back to your photographs (the four on a patio pole) to see how you'd connected your LNBs on the bottom dish but couldn't find the link ...

Comments would be appreciated - Charles

PS: Why does the system convert the word "c a b l e" to "c @ b l e" ... ?

hi m8,
You can Connect up to 4 x receivers with this Diseqc Switch
i have added a picture of it, and these cost less than £ 10

Hi Big D

Maybe I'm misinterpreting your picture ... but does it not show 4 LNBs going in and one output coming out? In other words, four LNBs serving a single receiver? Am I missing something? Or am I just a bit thick?

hi m8,
this is what it says for this item, on the leaflet i got from a dealer i buy from
i musr admit i have never used one, and dont know anything about how they work. for me it would be easier and cheaper at £ 45 to buy a diseqc motor.
This Price Cant Be Beaten in The UK
Connect up to 4 x receivers with this Diseqc Switch price £ 9.95
You dont have to use all ports so if only requiring 2 x ports just leave others blank..

Naah, I have one of them; only for four LNBs, not four receivers.

Can anyone give me a qualified assessment of the "technical side of things" I describe earlier in this thread?
Please? ...

I'm not an expert yet but I think what you described/proposed is technically correct. However, you might have to adjust the alignment for the combined weight of 4 twin LNBs though I have one twin which is not heavier than a lot of single LNBs.

Another thing is with the number of holes you might have to drill to 'let in' the cables into the house.

Hi Charles.

Your original observations regarding 2 x 4-port switches is perfectly correct, and you have clearly understood how it all works.

Logically, this would work perfectly. Strangely, not many people who run multi-LNB dishes then take the additional step of going multi-receiver too.

A few that have, have (apparently :?) reported problems, due to either the LNBs or the switches simply not functioning as they should. The manufacturers obviously don't do sufficient testing in this area if these failures are to be believed >

Worth a go though IMO. I've never seen a setup such as you describe fail, but it will (IMO) increase your chances of success if you buy good quality components. Two cable-runs into the house would be required with this setup, assuming you mount your switches outside (near the dish).

You may also be interested to read about Unicable - an alternative method of managing multiple receivers, but I've never seen a setup which replicates what you want to achieve. It may well be a neater solution? :?

Drawback? Only a few receivers support it right now, though influences from mainland Europe seem to be causing the standard to spread to the UK. The Vantage for example has this capability.

Unicable specification sheet attached FYI, though I personally have no experience of using this kit, and so won't be able to advise with any great authority
