I'm getting a bit fed up of using a crossover cable to connect my Dreambox to my PC. Can anyone recommend a good router (I'm probably going to go for a wired one) for Dreambox networking?
Many thanks. |

Welcome to the forum Davei. Definitely go for wired, otherwise it blocks the dreambox up a bit if wireless.
I use the D-Link DI-624+ router with my c@ble system. Most well known routers are ok. Which internet connection do you have, BT or c@ble?

I use a Belkin Cable/DSL Router. Seems to work OK 99% of the time
![]() I paid £2.80 + £5 P&P for it off ebay, brand new still in the wrapping :spite: Mind you it did finish at 5am in the morning so that probably explains why it was so cheap ![]() Nano

I'm currently using Sky's Netgear DG834GT router, which is actually pretty good considering the crappy knobbled firmware that's on it, but you can get the non-sky version easily enough.
You can also revert a Sky one back to the regular firmware. The wireless range is particularly good, reaching parts of my place that my Linksys WAP54G (with modded firmware to boost the power AND a huge 7dBi antenna kit fitted) wouldn't reach! I've also got the excellent ZyXEL Prestige 653HWI-11 which I'll be switching back to just as soon as I change ISP later this year. TBH pretty much any branded router/gateway will do you.

have you asked your provider for there advise on what router to use. if like me your provider is aol, when i wanted to change my bt 105 modem to a bt 205 modem so i could use a eathernet connection, i contacted aol they said it would work but they would not give any support for it. i asked which they would recommend, they said a thompson speedtouch 585 wireless router. they not only gave me this info, they sent me the router free of charge. this router can be set-up as wireless or wired only as i use it. |

ISPs never seem to 'support' anything other than the hardware which they supply themselves, but it's interesting to hear that you got a freebie out of AOL
