Hello everybody, sorry to join up and straight away post a problem, I have spent hours browsing this forum to see if anyone had posted a similar situation to mine and it appears not. So I hope someone can help me. I live on the seafront in Sussex and on high pressure weather days my freeview reception breaks up, apparently due to interference from France. So I bought a mini digital system from Maplins really just as a backup, it is this one:- http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ce=14&doy=21m4
When I set it up I received a no signal message, when I pressed the info button on the remote it showed me that I had a signal intensity of 38% and a signal quality of 11% I have moved the dish to face the same direction as my neighbours dish and then adjusted its direction in small degrees but the signal meters don't change. Is it possible to check whether the LNB or cable are faulty without the expense of replacing them? Could it be that this system is not up to scratch? As I said I live on the seafront facing south over the sea, there is nothing blocking my view to the horizon. It is quite a small dish but I thought it should be ok as I live where I do, and needed it to be as unobtrusive as possible. Any help would be most gratefully received. |

Hi delman :welc1: to Satellite help.
I take it your after 28.2E (sky satellite). If it is I don't think you will be able to receive Ch4, Five, Five Life etc. as they are encrypted via satellite and you would need a sky digibox for these ![]() When you were moving the dish did you adjust the elevation as well? It could be it just needs a tweak up or down. Kev

Welcome to the forum delman.
That dish is very small and whilst the system should be ok for BBC and ITV channels plus a few other free to view channels it will need very accurate positioning. If you can get an accurate angle from your neighbours dish then try raising and lowering the angle of the dish to get a better signal. The dish itself should look almost vertical when installed correctly. Have a play while the weather is good.

delman your FreeView problems will indeed be caused by interference from France - in high pressure conditions tv signals often travel further than normal, & this can cause havoc due to "co channel interference" On analogue tv channels you get herringbone pattern stripes across the picture. Digital channels will be totally lost
When I lived down in Staffordshire I used to be able to get Anglia every time there was high pressure just by dangling an old tv aerial out of the bedroom window, and I have vivid memories of one memorable evening when I got Dutch TV!

Hello and thanks for the replies. Well after hours of messing around without a flicker of interest from the new setup, I read the posts in reply to me here and three minutes later I've got satellite TV! So many thanks for the help. Didn't realise how many channels there were, seems like there are more shops on air than we've got here in Hastings. And channels where naked women kneel on beds with phones clamped to their ears and Playboy 1 where men who seem not to have any marriage tackle disinterestedly start humping bored looking women without even the trouble of chatting up or wining and dining first! Next I think I will need to print off a channel list so I can find what I want to watch more easily. Thanks again for the help.

Fantastic. Not sure which satellite you're on, but it sounds good! :roflmao:
You can use the channel listings at sites like Kingofsat.net, Lyngsat.com or Flysat to tie up the channels you have on-screen with a channel listing. Use the Frequency and polarisation to find a match for a few transponders and you'll be away. There are probably three satellites you can pull in with that tiny dish, 28.2E, 19E and 13E. Have fun!

I think I have got 28e, there's about 2 dozen ITV1's similar number of BBC1's, BBC2, 3 and 4, ITV2, 3 and 4, Film4 some +1 of these channels, CITV, CBBC, loads of minority interest stuff, loads of shopping channels and the aforementioned mildly rude ones. There are a number of scrambled channels as well.
Not sure what 28E, 19E etc. actually means, so I am guessing its the compass position in the sky, but I haven't had a compass since I was a nipper (and that was in the heel of my Clarke's shoes) so I can't check it. The receiver box apparently came with a number of satellites programming pre installed, but I'll try and learn a bit more about all of this before I try and get too clever! |

You are on 28E. For more information on the positions of the other satellites we discuss please read Analoguesat's thread in the FAQ's section:
