Hi, Complete Newbie here and my prayers have been answered by finding this site! There is so much info out there it's hard to take it all in. SO this place looks like a god send!
Anyway....one first question to get me going. I know that you can find free football and movies out there as well as porn (which I am not all that interested in). But is there plenty of other English language channels to be had? I'm thinking of the Discovery channel, history Chanel etc. etc. I download so many movies that I don't have that much of a requirement for finding those in the sky. So it's those channels I am interested in. I have been quoted around 300 pounds to have a motorised set up with the technomate 1500 box. Does that sound like a good deal? Reading the forum that looks like a good box, but just how hard it it to update the key's and cams etc? And one more thing....is there a definitive list of what is on which satelite anywhere? I have Long wondered if a fixed dish would be sufficient, but I wouldn't know just what satelites to point at. Okay so that was more than one question! ![]() But any advise would be appreciated. |

Hello m8 - welcome to the forum
![]() There isn't much English/documentary type stuff available either FTA or 'hacked' at the moment. I would be very happy if it was (though I have a basic Sky sub too). The Technomate 1500 is an easy box to use and update, and is good VFM. You could buy a good Techno 1500 motorised system for around £175 - £200 if you fit it yourself, otherwise you're looking at the £300 mark - and that probably won't use top quality external components. Good channel listing sites are kingofsat.net, flysat.com and lyngsat.com Also, check out the satcodx stuff at http://satcodx.com or What Satellite magazine. English FTA stuff can be found here, though most of it is on 28.2E of course, and not included in that thread. Other satellites only tend to carry English as an alternate audio track - so often only on movies etc, as it's the original language and present by default. Lyngsat identifies English audio channels where they're available, as do other sites. HTH.
