Default Digital TV broadcasting in Turkey to start in six months

Digital TV broadcasting will begin in 13 major Turkish cities within the next six months, Nuri Colakoglu, chairman of the Anten Corp Executive Board, said. Anten Corp, which was established to unite TV transmitter operations in Turkey under a single roof in order to start broadcast through a common antenna, held its first executive board meeting on Tuesday.

Nuri Colakoglu from Star TV, who became the chairman of the Anten Corp Executive Board, said, “the digital TV broadcasting will first begin in 13 major cities within the next six months and then it will be gradually extended to other areas.”

Colakoglu stated that the executive board decided to announce a tender for a common antenna system, indicating that they also agreed to launch necessary works for construction of towers. Colakoglu added that there would be five huge antenna towers only in Istanbul.

The Anten Corp Executive Board is comprised of members from Transportation Ministry, national public broadcaster TRT and the private broadcasters Kanal D, Show TV, ATV, Star TV, NTV, Kanal 7 and STV.
