Tried changing my root password today using the 'password' menu under blue button/extras in Gemini 3.2.
It accepted the update, but then allowed BOTH passwords for 'root'. Sorted it out with Telnet, but can anyone explain this nonsense? Is Telnet still the best way to do this? STICK

To my mind, telnet is the only way to do it. It is easy and you can see exactly what you are doing. Also it doesn't leave temp garbage around in memory.

If you can ftp to the box, that's good. If not (as you might not know the password) the only way you can manipulate the filesystem is if you have tuxbox commander installed.
Using tuxbox commander or your ftp program, navigate to the /var/etc folder and edit the 'passwd' file. Edit the top line (root) to look like this... Code:
root::0:0::/:/bin/sh ![]() If you don't have ftp access or tuxbox commander...reflash! Njoy! |

If you have acces to the Box via Remote control, you can start on the Box the Tuxbox-Commander, too (if not installed you can download it via Bluepanell) And delete the "Passwd" in var/etc then you´ll get acces with the standart passwd cu Oschy
