A friend of mine just moved to his new house and want to have both Freeview and Satellite (not from Sky, obviously
).He asked me (for some reason he thinks that I am sat guru LOL) whether there are any good combo-boxes exist. I think there are at least four of those - MVision FCIS 8085 USB Combo, MVision FCIS 9085 USB Combo, Echolink 4000 TS and Topfield 5410PVR. His budget is 100 quid, which puts Toppy and Mvision 9085 out of reach, thus leaving 8085 and Echolink 4000 in the equation. Two questions to REAL gurus (I'll then pass answers to him, pretending I really smarter than I am ):1. Are there any better receivers on the market? 2. Is any of these patchable and got good support? He want to watch Cyfra (his wife is Polish). |

That is dated December. 5 months is eons in the satellite game. TPS & MV is down on most boxes as well at the moment! C+ France has been down for months - that was old and outdated news when the article was put together.

Thanks mate. I spoke to my friend and he doesn't want to cross the 100 quid boundary... Analoguesat Thanks for clarification! Now it is clear (sort of) ![]() What do you guys think of MVision? Are these receivers supported? BTW, while I am at it - can someone please clarify DM600 situation? I noticed that many sellers put something like this in description: Linux based PVR ready satellite receiver, with smartcard reader. Includes additional Plug & Play tuner options. Buy a DVB-S (digital satellite), DVB-T (digital terrestrial) or DVB-C (digital cable) tuner for this box – for just £29 Now, does that mean DM600 comes tunerless and I people have to buy tuner of their choice or is it shipped with sat tuner and it is possible to buy second tuner for it? I mean will it become dual-tuner? If yes then it might be just the answer to my prayer! (not related to my friend's situation ).

Thanks mate. I spoke to my friend and he doesn't want to cross the 100 quid boundary...) hi m8,thats upto your friend,i dont think he knows what he is going to miss on.for a extra £39 he is missing out on the best receiver made todate for its price. If he can do without freeview then the other vantage would be a great by.this receiver will leave the technomates behind.Vantage receivers can be patched,im watching prem & D+ from it.this receiver has a a brill tuner init for weak signels,it handels high symbol rates very well. All so on symbol rate it has true 1000 for low symbol rate.now on top of that wow,it has a great blind scan thats very farst & finds 30% more than other blind scan receivers.for £139 for the one with freeview Vantage VT-X221TS CI.or if with out £99 Vantage VT-X221S CI.If you dont give this receiver some sirus thought, you & your m8 must be mad.ps did you like the sat term (sirus thought) sid |

As I said, I have no say on this matter - it is his decision and he ruled out this receiver because of price tag. He is not sat enthusiast and all he wants is some kind of set-n-forget type of equipment. The reason for combo 'box isn't Cyfra or TPS or whatever; he just want to use 1 remote control instead of 2, that's it.

Why doesn't he just get a combination (programmable) remote?
I prefer to keep all by components separate - when one dies, you only have to replace a single unit. And I love cables (mmm, that's a lie, but worth putting up with )
