Going by the pictures I have seen it looks about the size a boxed set of DVD's, either that or it has a two foot long remote control.

I'm sure that there will be working images and emus etc. for the 500 for a very, very long time, even if the supply of brand-spanking new images eventually dries up.

I noticed in the latest Gemini (3.5) readme, that this will be the last image released for the 56x0 series boxes, but I don't think that will be a major issue either. I know one or two people that are still running Hydra images on the 7000!

The 500 is a good place to start.......take ur time and enjoy setting it up, most people think it is a chore, but once u get it set up, then u can start to explore all the other things it can do. Then u will want to go the next step and upgrade

Good Luck

The DM500's from Alsat are definitley not genuine. They're close (corect make ethernet port/card reader) but I can guarantee they're clones. I know from experience.

A couple of things I noticed from the machine I had from them:

The MAC address printed on the packaging does not match that of the box itself.
The component near the ethernet port is yellow and not black.
The metal casing does not match the front panel.
The Dream emblem on the front panel is held in with bent wire.
There is no "Dream" writing on the PCB just "Top1".
The unit was supplied with composite AV leads (legit machines are not).

After I reported this to "Darkman", he quickly discounted the remaining units to the price you saw (£99) and placed a listing on ebay for £89.

And this is before he claimed categorically on the forum that they were the genuine article I assume, as I remember that there were questions asked during the £99 sale.

Hello all,

I came across this post through Google and decided to register to offer my experience of the topic at hand, and maybe save somebody else some grief.

These Dreamboxes are definitely clones. I know because I bought one and know of several others who have now identified theirs as being fakes also. I have exhaustively examined my receiver and am fully satisfied that it is a clone. I have also examined another one that came from the same place and it too is a fake.

Have a look at this below. Another unhappy owner...
