Default 12" T&K and 2" pole

Hi All

I want to mount a 1.1m dish on a 2.2m 2" steel pole. I was going to use 4 x 12" t&k brackets to mount this but I have also been told this wll be unsafe and I must use 18" t&k's.

Will 4x12" be ok or do I need 18"?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Ish.

From your other post it looks as if you are thinking of a 1.1 M dish. Obviously the size of dish and the mounting location will affect the size of bracket you need so that the dish is sufficiently clear of any obstruction. Are you motorising the dish?

Stick has put some very useful info on the forum re mounting dishes. Have a read of that.

Can you give us a little more info on the mast please?

When you say 2.2m, do you mean 2.2m with a bracket at the top and the bottom (and maybe a couple in-between), or do you mean 2.2m sticking up out the top of the uppermost bracket?

Could you provide a sketch, or a photo of your chosen mounting location?

12" or 18" has nothing to do with strength - especially if you're going to use four of the bu99ers - the standoff only dictates how far from the wall your mast will (need to) be. If you have clearance (of your gutters, and/or for the motor to rotate the dish etc.) then that's all you need. No point going 'up' a size.

There is more steel in an 18" bracket, but there is less leverage exerted on a 12" bracket, so you can stop worrying about 'safety'.

I'm going to be using a 1.1m motorised dish and the total size of the pole will be 2.2m.

I'm just deciding on a mounting locations but it will probably be to the right and higher up compared to where my sky dish is

Can't you raise your current mast, and fit the new motorised dish underneath the Sky dish?

Might be a bit unusual, but your minidish would still be stable at the top of that sort of pole I would have thought.
