Default What sort of set up?

Hi,

I'm living in an apartment and have access to a roof (flat roof, so I can easily get up there)

I'm looking at an inexpensive way to watch sports, and in particular football, which I can understand I can get by receiving a channel such as TPS Foot?

What equipment do I need?

- What receiver would be best (less than €100 ideally)
- What size dish?
- Should I get a motorized one?
- Should I be looking at receiving Hotbird/Astra?
- Would I need some sort of card?
- Would I be able to install the dish myself with the right info, or should I defo consult a professional? I'm familiar with setting up coax cables, so that part of the setup wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,
GKR

What equipment do I need?

- What receiver would be best (less than €100 ideally) Dreambox 500 for sale on a l s a t for under £100, although you may want to do a bit of reading on the DB before you buy as its a very steep learning curve to get it to do what you want, i.e Free TV Sid highly recommends the Vantage receiver, certain models can be got for under £100. There is also the Technomate 1000 series although TPS is well and truly closed on them at the moment due to TPS using a new encryption algorithm

- What size dish?
At least an 80cm one i would say

- Should I get a motorized one?
Depends on what you want to watch. They start at about £35.00

- Should I be looking at receiving Hotbird/Astra?
Most of the best stuff is on Astra 1 19.2e , Hispasat 30w and Hotbird 13e.

At the moment you have Digital+, Premiere on 19e, TV Cabo and Digital+ on 30w and depending on the receiver TPS on 13e. Unfortunately this can change from week to week. Canal+ Polsat and Sky Italia have also been open in the past, although Sky Italia is very unlikely to ever be hacked again as it is now using NDS encryption the same as BskyB

- Would I be able to install the dish myself with the right info, or should I defo consult a professional?
Have a go at it yourself, should be really easy on a flat roof

Hope this helps

Hi GKR, :welc4: to the site

Can I just ask if you are based in the UK, or if not which country you are based in?

The equipment you require might differ if you are not UK based

Default Re: What sort of set up?

I've decided on the Technomate CI 1500 Super and a 90cm Fortec Star dish.

I have a few more questions though ops:

Would I be right in thinking that a monobloc LNB would allow me to pick up Astra 19.2 and Hotbird 13.0 at the same time?

I have an unused Sky dish on my roof (pointing at 28.2) so I'd be looking to bring that into the mix if at all possible to receive BBC and ITV.

Would the box be capable of taking the Astra 19.2/Hotbird 13.0 feeds and seperately the Astra 28.2 feed?

Or would I need a four way DISEQC switch to combine the 3 feeds?

Thanks for your help,
GKR

yes if you want both dish feeds going into 1 receiver other wise just run the dishes feeds to the separate receivers
