I have (had?
) a Fortec FSIR 5400 which I had patched before. Today, I tried to load software from Al7bar for TPS AU; the download seemed to go well and was nearly completed with the bar level showing near completion. more or less at the last second a message came up that "download failed". That would have been no problem except that the receiver is now no longer responding. The on/off switch is no longer working; if you try from the mains (re-plugging) it makes an effort to start up (with the flashing LED lights flickering/running) but aborts it about 1/3 of the way through and responds no more. (Mercifully, I have another basic FTA receiver - Technosat 888 as replacement; will now have to buy a Technomate probably or heed Satsid's 'evangelism' and go for a Vantage)Anyway my question is --- is the kind of problem something that can be fixed by a Jtag and, more importantly, how to go about the whole Jtag business. All suggestions appreciated. 8)

Have you tried re-flashing it again?
JTAG can be used on many receivers, but DIY can be a bit scary and/or hit and miss. I don't know much about it TBH. I believe that this is the technique used when boxes go back for factory repair. The latter option wouldn't be financially viable though. You have to solder fly leads onto the correct contacts on the PCB and then run them to a suitable programmer. You could also check this thread.

The dead shall live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot BGS; up and running again. It turns out that I had tried to download the wrong software out of two options on Al7bar; one is named 385 etc the other 365 etc. The 385 is the one that knackered the receiver. So what I did was download the 365 to laptop; prepare the laptop for loading to the PC through the Loader; when Loader gave prompt 'waiting for receiver', I then turned on the receiver at the mains for reset and, as someone said somewhere on this or another forum, "Robert's ya father's brother"! ![]() So up and running again As soon as I get some loose change, I will get a Technomate or a Vantage.PS, however, I want to use this opportunity to mention a receiver that I think quite rivals the Technomate. It is the Hivion 9090 series (X or XCI etc). It has as much support as the TM, usually from some chaps in the Phillipines and the Middle & Far East. You can get info about it on the Pinoy forum and other places. I use it in my other home and its patch, AU, EPG etc are very good indeed. I believe TPS AU was still working on it when the TM was down. In fact if I head up Egypt way before buying the TM, I will buy another one of it first. Cheers all and happy bank holiday bodge er set ups to all those doing that.
