Hi Dave, yes its possible, but we will need to know WHERE you live (nearest town) to advise on the likely required dish size. BTW Ive moved this to our section dedicated to sat tv for spouses

As you can see from this page:

http://en.kingofsat.net/find2.php?po...rd=&ordre=freq

the majority of the Norwegian channels are on Sirius 3 or Thor 2/3.

All 3 satellites satellites have beams spotted on the Nordic area.

Thor 2:

Thor 3:
http://www.telenorsbc.com/upload/ima...I_coverage.gif

These suggest 1.2m for Thor 2 and 1.5m+ for those channels on Thor 3.

Sirius 3 is going to be similar to Thor 3 but may need slightly bigger if anything.

These footprints are only indicative so you may find you are lucky.

You will also need a subscription from Canal+ Nordic - preferably sourced in Norway & activated over there if this is required for this service.

Thanks for this.

Apologies for what may seem more dumb questions, i really want to make sure I do this right and not get ripped off...

If I get a 1.5m dish would it have the motorised to alternate between Thor2 3 and Sirius? Also what would I need for a reciever, would a dreambox be te right way?

Also would a 1.5m dish be too heavy and big to hang to the wall?

Thor 2 & 3 are co-located so will be seen as being in one location.

Sirius 3 is further round the orbital arc, and the channels on this satellite will need a second subscription - different operator - different encryption - different costs!

You really need to decide which are your priority channels for viewing. Also give it a couple of days & some of the other folks on the forum will chip in with their ideas and experiences with the Nordic birds.

Hi m8,1.5m+ for those channels on Thor 3 will be best for clear viewing all the time.A 1.2 dish will be ok in good wether, but not so good when raining.Im in Im in Lancaster to.Now to Sirius 3 & the Norwegian channels, your need a min size dish of 1.8 meter, but for night time your need a 2.4 meter dish i run with a 1.8 meter dish,& in the day i can pick up these channels. But there not strong in signel. This setup is going to cost a good bit, make sure you get a very good make dish..

I find Thor 2 is viewable on a much smaller dish than that, but can't get Thor 3 very well at all. I'm on the south coast though, and that's on a 90cm dish.

I would say that 1.2m to 1.5m would be the right size to give you a nice signal strength buffer. The Gibertini 1.25m or 1.5m dishes are great performers without costing the earth. You'll want a really professional install (that doesn't mean you can't DIY, just that you must prepare well), and yes, these dishes are really too big for wall mounting. Flat roof or ground-mounted patio stand (triangulated non-pentrating mount) or a 3" pole concreted into the ground are the best ways to go.

Understand that this is going to cost you near to a grand including subscription before you start. I don't think that's too bad though when you consider the enjoyment it will bring for your wife.

You won't need a Dreambox, just a good quality Conax-capable (for Thor at 1 degree West) receiver with card slot, or something else with a CAM slot and a Conax CAM.

Don't worry about asking daft questions. Just ask away

I have managed to get some scandanavian channels on my 90cm dish in the Midlands.

No idea if they are from Norway, Sweden or Denmark though, all i know is they are Scandanavian
