Got sent this from a friend who works at Hunterston Nuclear Power Station, It's not too far away from me but I doubt I will be travelling towards an exploding Nuclear Power Station. :roflmao:
"Got a wee internal mail today about the continuing decommissioning of Chapelcross Power station. thats the one you can see as you go south on the M74 past Annan and you can see the 4 big cooling towers on the horizon. On Sunday 20th May at 0900 (weather permitting) they will be demolished. I got this today........ The planned demolition of the Chapelcross Cooling Towers, by the controlled use of explosives, is planned to take place on the morning of Sunday 20th May 2007 at approx 09:00 am. The demolition going ahead at this time and date, is obviously still subject to a series of qualifying factors, including the good old Scottish weather conditions on the day. The British Nuclear Group management team at Chapelcross are continuing to work closely with Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and the Council’s Emergency Planning team to ensure the safety of the public is maintained during the event. The demolition will be broadcast live via a dedicated website (www.chapelcrosscoolingtowers.com). If you are interested you will be able to view the event, as it happens, from the safety of your own home!"

It always makes me laugh when the EEDYOTS going on about contamination show a group of cooling towers emitting lots of water vapour.
If the towers are nice and wet before they demolish them, there should not be too much dust.

Yeah, I liked old Fred too. Salt of the Earth and all that. I bet these coolers will come down a bit quicker than Fred would have managed it though

![]() I've seen the towers at Ravenscraig being pulled down by non-entities without a thought for the people of Motherwell/Wishaw and the surrounding areas. Thatcher shut the best Steelmaking facility in Britain because of politics and employed a yank/skank to do it for her (black bob). Desolate land now, until the greedy hoosbuilders get their teeth int it. :spite: ops:Rant over.

We received a lot of hits from the search engines for 'chapelcross cooling towers' strangely. Here's how it all ended for those of you that can deal with destructive endings...

Just picked up a wee bit of info regarding the Calder Hall cooling towers at Sellafield today. Apparently, they are to be demolished on Saturday 29th September.
Their will be a lot of ass twitching going on that day I bet, especially as one of the towers is right next to the main Magnox reprocessing plant and storage pond, who's pond just happens to have been built on stilts ![]() Think I'll spend that weekend at home.... Kev
