Is there a way I can get Eurosport and/or the Extreme sport channels on 28.2e? Or recommend any other channels that show that kind of thing.. Only have the basic Sky dish, (for now..) and A Skystar 2 card. Both channels appear on scans but are obviously encrypted as I get no sound or picture.. Anyone point me in the right direction?

I read a rumour that Extreme Sports might go FTA but thats only a rumour. Those 2 channels are open on other packages away from 28.2 but it will be international/another countries eurosport and not british eurosport.

When we first got Sky I was able to watch Extreme sport. One day it was ok the next it came up with a number to ring to subscribe.. How rude
Perhaps it's time to stick another dish on the wall..

Yes, Extreme Sport used to be FTA, and no way to get any NDS-encrypted channels on the Skystar2 without card sharing.
Extreme Sport and Eurosport are FTA on other satellites, although the latter isn't available in English. There are 'hacked' versions available too.

No need to be embarrassed
![]() 28.2E - the 'Sky' satellites - carry the vast majority of English language programming across Europe. You can watch and listen to hundreds of FTA (Free To Air) TV and radio transmissions here with a Sky digibox. You can get a few extra ones too with a different receiver, or a PCI card in your computer like the Skystar you have. OK, so that you probably knew already. There are a few FTV (Free To View) channels at 28.2E too. Channel 4, Five, Sky three, Five Life and Five US. For these you need a one off payment to Sky to buy an NDS card which you can put in your Sky digibox (or a 'Dreambox-type' receiver). The rest are available for a monthly subscription to Sky. Sky exclusively use an encryption system called NDS Videoguard. It's secure, and the recent versions have never been compromised by the pirates. The cards, along with just about every other type of subscription card, can be 'unofficially' shared between a number of receivers either locally across a LAN, or further afield across the internet between consenting parties who trust each other not to blab about it. This is known as a card-sharing group. It's effectively a private peer-to-peer networking arrangement. Using this technique, it appears to the receiver that the card is located locally in a card-reader slot in the receiver. There are loads of other satellites in the sky too. They are used by other providers (dozens) using other encryption systems (ten maybe) - some of which have been compromised. That means that if you point a dish at these satellites instead of at 28.2E you can watch loads of FTA transmissions, plus (with the correct software loaded on your PC or 'patched' into the receivers firmware) channels transmitted using compromised encryption systems. There are several such systems at the moment. Some of the content is available with an option of an English language audio stream. This is particularly common on movies, where English is the original language of the film. HTH. STICK

WOW
Comprehensive answer Stick. Taa. Looks like I have 2 options then: Get a subscription from Sky for one our existing Sky boxes and share the card or buy another dish & download some software. Having looked at the boxes there isn't an rj45 on either of them, (different boxes), so don't quite understand how I would share the card. I assume that an HD or Sky Plus box also would not incorporate a lan port for fairly obvious reasons. Do the cards have some sort of id or number you punch in to the software? (Thinking out loud - sorry!) If I bought another dish and wanted that hooked up to my existing Skystar I guess I would need a DiSEqC switch, (look who's getting the technical jargon!!!!), and the appropriate software, which I imagine needs updating quite frequently. Cheaper to buy a Skystar or a switch? Thinking out loud again...!! Hmmm. Food for thought.. In danger of answering my own question I suppose the answer would be to buy a different box that would take the Sky subscribed card and had a lan port.. Would make the Skystar fairly redundant tho.. And I would be [i]paying[i] for something > Perhaps I'll go away and think about this when I wake up! Thanks for your input thus far..
