In my experience with the Fortec 5400, I find that when I have loaded softcam, it has generally worked e.g. TPS at the moment. But when I have manually entered keys, it has not been so good. In fairness, I believe that I haven't fully worked out some aspects of entering keys e.g. when to enter 00 and 01 or 10 & 11 (have today learned of 20 & 21 for Technomates!) for Nag*a before the full keys; I can generally enter the rest alright of course; just that prefix bit still has me foxed. :?

...and worst of all, it's receiver-specific!
All depends on how lazy the patchers were. Most of these numbers bear no resemblance to the real key data - not even on the softcam file itself. Check out a proper softcam.key file for the real deal. It's quite interesting. If you can be bothered to study it over a period of time and see where the keys actually go, you'll learn a lot about satellite encryption without even realising it.

Aplogies for busting in
ops:, but can one of you experts please clarify whether it is always NECESSARY to update softcam keys on a receiver even though as a personal example I only have TPS/Multivision patched on a fixed Hotbird system and am not currently using any other satellite. |

Hi Wod
![]() I don't think I made myself clear earlier ops: I already have latest TPS update on my receiver and channels are viewing fine![]() All I am trying to understand being pretty new to all is this "softcam keys "update given out almost daily on Alsat for Technomate 1000 series as I noticed today. All I want to know if it is NECESSARY for me to download these keys to my Technomate as a matter of course or not! I only have dish pointing at Hotbird at present and I have an inkling that these keys are for freeing other packages like Premiere on Astra and so on... is that right? |

Yes, these softcam keys are mainly for D+ on 19E and TV Cabo on 30W. They have no use on 13E I'm afraid
.But at least you've got TPS ![]() Kev

Hi Wod
![]() I've got motor on dish but not it's not connected ops:I initially did a diy install back in February but couldn't get motor set up on the arc, that's why it's on Hotbird for time being. I plan to do a proper connection in the next couple of months now that footie season is over ![]() |
