So, whilst I'm waiting for the DM-8000 to come out, I was wondering - is the Dreambox the most Patachble reciever, because I've noticed a lot of patches and stuff for the Mvision and Technomates.
I'll still get a DM-8000 because its just amazing, but I might also consider getting another receiver if it would offer more TV?

Other receivers are patchable for a limited number of encryptions. Linux based receivers like the Dream are completely flexible only limited by the imagination.

![]() Just to check, there are never situations where things work on one model dreambox, but not on another?

Yes they are slightly different but other than the 5620 and 500 models they mostly cover all the options.
If you want an rf output, then the 7000 is not for you but then it is not a current model. If you want twin tuners then its the 7025 or wait for the 8000. By then you may resemble Rumplestiltskin, although there was a message from one of the 8000 developers to say it will definitely be on sale VERY soon.

If something is available for a receiver other than the Dreambox (or Skystar - they're logically similar) then it will either be out within 24 hours, or it's not a public hack!

7000 patches work on 7020's - you just lose the sound through the rf output. (Ive done it
)7025's are totally different and need specific images compiled especially for them. Trying to intentionally load wrong images on any receiver is generally a v bad idea

And as far as plugins go, (other than the 7025 which has a different chipset) most will run on any Dreambox, subject to having enough memory available (and assuming they're not hardware dependant of course - i.e. need a USB port etc.)
As the O/S is Linux, you can write and compile your own stuff if you know what you're doing. Scripting is also a lot of fun - not that I've done much for the Dreambox. I'm not a big fan of Linux, but it's a hell of a lot better than anything else that's out there on the STB scene.
