Anime Network-owned ADV Films is teaming up with UK channel Propeller TV, carried by satcaster Sky, to launch an animé programming block.
The programming will include a mixture of the most popular titles from US outfit Anime Network, offering Japanese action/adventure, sci-fi and horror animation. Titles include the Coyote Ragtime Show, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Guyver: The Bio-Boosted Armour and Elfen Lied. The new two-hour block will be presented by sci-fi experts Stuart Claw (T4) and Emma Vieceli (TokyoPop UK), and will debut on Propeller TV on June 3 between 20.00 and 22.00 every Sunday. The new block marks the first transatlantic programming deal for Anime Network, which reaches more than 40 million households in North America with globally derived animé programming. "Propeller already speaks to an audience rife with pop-culture sensibilities, so the line-up we've crafted should resonate well," said Stacy Dodson, Anime Network's director of programming. Not-for-profit company Propeller TV, which launched in February last year, is broadcast from Yorkshire, England, offering alternative viewing for a younger-skewed audience.
