Yes they are ok if your incoming signals are strong.

Ideally of course you want an unbroken run of c@ble from dish to receiver, but occassionally thats just not practical.

you can get them from maplins but they cost £2.99 + £2.95 postage.

I purchased one and it caused me no end of problems

It just causes another break with the associated loss of signal
