Are some signals free to air stronger than others - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums

I live in Luxembourg. I have a Sky Pace Digibox that is a few years old. I receive Free to Air and free to view (using a card). I have an 80cm dish. I get all the channels I want BBC1,2 Itv1,2 Ch4, Ch5, Sky News,QVC. However when the weather is bad I sometimes lose some channels but not all. For example ITV is lost quite easily as is BBC2., However Sky News and QVC are always unaffected.
Is this because the signals are stronger or is there an underlying problem that I should be aware of.
Any help or advise please.

ITV, BBC are on Astra 2D which has a footprint focussed on the UK. Your 80cm dish is marginal for this particular satellite and to guarantee reception you need a bigger dish.

Yes, it's true that both the transponder used and the frequency/polarisation can affect local reception. As Analoguesat says, if you're outside of the recognised footprint, these small differences can be the difference between stable viewing and broken/lost images.

In the UK are some signals from Astra 2D stronger than others? I only ask because anything with "UK" in the title is the first to brake up or freeze, or stick on a blue screen when changing channels.

In my experience, yes - quite a big difference in fact. I find that the weaker transponders carry the rubbish channels

In fact I'll revise that slightly - I read the above as Astra2.anything.

I can't remember comparing 2D signals specifically...
