Default Questions

After coming across this site I have enjoyed reading the postings although not understanding all the jargon used.
I live in the NE of Scotland Aberdeenshire Lat 57 19.6 N Long 2 27.7 W. I don’t have much technical skill
I am now thinking I may want to get involved so I am going to ask the following
Is there a motorised system available floor mounted which needs little or no setup” just plug in and play”
Thank you in advance for any help or information
Paul

you can patio mount a dish on a motor but all depends on your location whether there is trees, buildings in the way of the line of sight to the satellites

if you have line of sight south east to west you should be ok

there is some setting up involved but its not that hard you basically bolt all the dish and motor together on the pole, set the motor/dish to the settings stated in the manual for your lat and longitude, then send the dish via usals to the reference satellite usually thor 1west for uk installs, move the motor around on the pole to align on the reference satellite using a satellite meter to detect signal and then tighten bolts up

afterwards once the motor is tracking the satellite arc you can tweak to improve reception of satellites if you so wish to do so

There are fully automatic motorised systems - mainly aimed at the caravanning market - where the outside world keeps moving around a lot!

Here's the bad news - yep - they're horrendously expensive - £1300 is a fair starting price...

Why don't you try setting up a single-sat fixed dish on Astra 19.2E for a start and have a play? You'll certainly get a flavour of what's available, and know if you are interested enough to delve further.

You can do this for well under a hundred pounds with all-new kit.

Welcome to the site, and to the world of DIY satellite TV!
