My local store are doing the 250Gb DVD recorder for £150, so I might give that a go. I can always sell it on eBay like a pikey!

I think I'll give the slimmer's kit a miss too, in favour of a bacon sandwich and a cup of hot soup from the bakers next door to Lidl. I hope it's open at 5:30 in the morning!

This makes me laugh. All these special offers 'including Vista' - it's basically 'buy Vista for the full price and get a computer free!'

:roflmao:

Did someone mention "legitimate" software Core 2 Duo, gig o ram, 250 gb hdd, dvd rw, 19" decent screen, k/b, mouse, vista basic, 12 months warranty. £CHEAP (£21 dearer than Lidl), and not from a supermarket!!

I am getting nowhere

Am just wondering whether it is really possible to build an identical spec machine for 175 quid or less, that's all.

It is if you can buy the bits cheap enough. Most retailers will be making a clear 100% profit, so they must cost way less than half that price to build if the builder is going to make a profit.
