As some of you helpful chaps may remember I did my own motorised diy install back in February, but I could not get motor on the arc and subsequently ended up aligning to Hotbird for time being(motor is still on pole but not connected)as I had purchased Art Sport card.
Now that footie season is over I rang a local "professional" installer from Yellow pages this morning to quote on connecting motor etc.. and he surprisingly told me that he didn't offer this service and that I would have trouble getting a "professional" to do it as quote" they are a pain in backside due to the fact that motors move constantly and they have to be realigned at least once a year". ![]() Is he pullling my plonker and if so would I be better off purchasing a meter and having another go myself : ![]() |

They can move occasionally, especially if they're not installed very well - but there are plenty of very good 'professional' installers that will fit them.
You should understand though, that it's not necessarily fit and forget. I tend to fiddle with mine once in a while anyway, but you may get a couple of years of more without the need for a minor tweak. If you have it installed, and then immediately mark it all up with a permanent marker, then you should be able to re-align it yourself just by matching the marks up. I think the chap you spoke to is just trying to put you off. They can be time-consuming to set up properly, and they're probably not very profitable jobs for installers. TV aerials are much easier. ![]()

I phoned around 20 "professional" installers before I found one willing to do the job. He took around 2 hours to do it but when he left me the set-up was spot on. I also got a 1 year guarantee on the installation (that I didn't need to use) My dish finally moved just after the year was up due to very high winds, but I was able to re-align it quite easily.

I had already purchased a "TM1500CI+Super" Receiver for £100 the Installer provided the rest ( TM-2100A
Diseqc motor, Triax TD88 dish & LNB, T&K Brackets 2" Steel pole & all Clips and Cables, F-Connectors, etc.) and I was charged £205 all in. If your keen to DIY you definitely should, if all goes wrong (The guys on here will see to it that it dosen't) you can then "get a man in", apart from saving some dosh, you will have far more satisfaction and will know what to do if/when you have to re-align the dish after a Hurricane. ![]()

I've seen a Digisat Pro meter for £40 on Fleabay. I think I might buy that and give it a go myself
![]() I've already marked position of dish and motor with marker pen so I can always realign everything back to Hotbird if it goes T-TS up :? Watch this space ops: |

excellent meter for the price and well worth buying, its lcd screen is good so once you have a rating on the screen you can move the dish tiny bits to maximize the signal easier than those beeper ones art card has just run out, best value card i've had so far
