Hi Yorks, Hirens boot disk has a lot of disk progs that should recognise almost any file system. If you can download a copy and burn it to cd it may help. The fact that windoze recognises a disk in situ seems that the HD is ok but not initialised for win systems.

There is a possibility that the boot code has been corrupted. That can usually be corrected by a factory reset. Unfortunately I dont know how JVC receivers do that.

If its under 3 years old you could just try sending it back to Maxtor. Go to the bit on the site to get an RMA number. I've sent loads back in the past and they just send you a recon unit, normally bigger than the one you sent them

I don't know if this is still the case since they were bought out by Seagate but you have nothing to lose really. Maxtor were one of the only companies that would deal with the end user, hopefully that will still be the case.

I sent my wife there, but unfortunately they sent her back two weeks later. They couldn't extract any useful information out of her either.
