Default Buying a Technomate TMS-1000D

On the advice of BGonaSTICK, I'm gonna trade in my Fortec for the much better supported Technomate. I've seen the TMS-1000D on eBay touted as being the new model for 2007, which can be upgraded to take a CAM in the future. Just wanted to ask the experts, will all the advice/software regarding patching work just as well with the TMS-1000D as the TM-1000D? Complete newbie by the way. Cheers

Yes, I believe that the TMS-1000D can be patched in the same way. The TMS has a more sensitive tuner, but the blind scan function is so bad, that it renders that function useless. I would avoid it unless you have it confirmed that this has been fixed - which I doubt.

It appears - by the way that Techno's are being dumped onto the market at silly prices - that this receiver might have had it's day, but there are so many out there that I believe that support will continue for some time. This is a great value for money receiver if you want to buy a something for very little cash. If you have more money to spend, then there are fresher boxes out there.

Remember that there are no guarantees as to how long any box will receive support.

The nice touch with the Techno's is that you can feed the box new keys either via the remote, or via a proprietary softcam file. This will help keep them running.

I hope that the Technomates will go the way of the Humax IRCI-5400, which is well supported even now.

Thanks. A recent thread on the Alsat Forum says that the Super has a sensitive (but slower) blind scan - which is better for small dishes (like my Sky minidish?)
On eBay it's quite hard to find one that isn't a Super to be honest. They seem to be around £60 inc. delivery - which is about the maximum I can spend. It would seem like a good buy at that price - there is a lot of beginner's patching guides, etc for the 1000D over at Alsat (as well as here).

i have the tms 1500ci and like it as i'm not into blind scanning for feeds

Its entirely up to you, but I'd buy a Technomate 9100 for £109, its got far more goodies than all the other technomates left in a room without any condoms.

Its support isn't amazing at the moment (although a few things are open), but it is rising in numbers alarmingly fast, so it won't be long now (imo) before it overtakes the 1000 Series.

Thanks for all the advice - I think I'll stick with the TMS-1000D. I'm a complete beginner and I've managed to unearth a wealth of videos, guides, and help for it - thanks to this site and a l s a t. Will let you know how I get on.

To double check: I'd be really grateful if someone could check the item below and tell me I can definitley upgrade it!

Correct me if I am wrong, but you can get TMS1000d or TM1000 Super (what's the difference???) from Wizard for 59 quid delivered. Why go eBay route?

I don't know - but I'm in London tomorrow anyway so I can collect it for free. I just want an expert to tell me it's definitley going to work with what i've seen and read about with regards to patching through the alsat forum - just don't want to make a mistake and buy a dud!

Hi m8 good luck with your technomate,i guess youv payed for it now.But i think it might be a receiver of the past.well maybe? The vantage receivers are just as easy to use & its much better all round.I feel youv made a boo boo,but thats life.If anyone here can find a better tuner in another receiver,i would be shocked for weak signels. It can mean the difference wether you watch a channel or not thats boarder line. The blind scanning for the vantage is much better & farster.I have used both side by side. With the likes of prem open atm on 19 east,i wonder if the vantage will have better support now.Its looking like it atm.
