The new overall TV law, Ley General del Audiovisual, aimed at putting an end to the ‘chaotic’ and disparate Spanish TV legislation, will not come to light during the present Government's mandate to be finished next March.
The Government has put off the decision to send the new piece of legislation, along with the law to create an Audiovisual Council, to the Parliament for lack of time for its approval and in order to include the new TV without frontiers legislation. This new piece of legislation formed part of a wide Government reform plan of the TV industry, including the regulation of DTT and the reorganisation of state-owned group RTVE. With its decision to put it on hold, the Government avoids a new conflict with the TV operators who have been challenging the Administration over the so-called cinema law, finally approved by Spain's Council of Ministers last Friday.
