Default Is this tree going to stop me getting a signal?

I'd like to get a dish pointing at 19.2E for German telly, but I think this tree may be in the way. The dish would (hopefully) be mounted to the right of the window this photo was taken from. The photo is pointing roughly in the right place, but does it get enough view? Is the tree in the way?

I'll be calling out a CAI installer to install it (more questions on that later!), but I wanted to get an idea of what you guys thought first.

The elevation (London) to the satellite is 28-29 degrees above the horizontal. If the view to the satellite is through the gap on your picture you should have no problems.

It doen't look as if it is a problem, but trees have a habit of growing. If it is your tree, you can do a bit of pruning. If its someone else's tree you will have to do a bit of pruning - at night

Hopefully it'll be ok then

I take it that anything to the left of the chimney on the house opposite is no hope. Or can the signal get through leaves?

It's the council's tree. I've already called them to get it pruned (but I expect it to die of old age before they do anything).

No, satellite signals can't pass through leaves, only the gaps between them!

You might find that you will get a signal off 19.2E even if it's on the extreme right-hand side of your photo.

Ummm. Maybe attached to the chimney then - 60 cm is ok isn't it? (planning regs)

My worry with putting it on the chimney is that we've had some strong winds in the last 6 months and I wonder if the wind would nudge the dish out of position - is that likely? I wouldn't want to hand out £200 everytime it's windy to get the dish adjusted. Maybe if it had a motor it can re-align itself...

What do you weant to pay someone 200 quid for - we can teach you everything you need to know about dish alignment - as long as the dish is mounted somewhere accessible.

I'm really not a fan of dishes on chimneys. It's a bit like strapping a rocket to a hamster

Yeh the idea of a huge sail attached to a Victorian chimney scares me.

I'll have to call out a professional. They should know what to do. I now know to avoid the chimney if possible. Presumably they can tell if I can get a signal from the wall before I pay for a load a equipment.

I now have a dish installed
A friend recommended an installer who was very helpful and friendly
I went for a basic setup (just Astra 1) for the German TV. I'm amazed at the clarity of the picture, way better than Virgin cable.

Thanks for the help
