Currently we recieve reception from Hotbird quite well here in Tajikistan but are limited to watching only the free to air channels - we would like to purchase a pay per view set up but not sure whom to deal with so could someone please let me know where to find an agent for the service.

Welcome Bob. There are several providers using the Hotbird satellite. Take your pick from the list here:
http://lyngsat.com/packages/europe.html Hotbird is at 13.0° East, and there are other satellites you could choose from too. You can even get a simple device called a monobloc LNB to let you watch Hotbird and Astra 1 (at 19.2E) without even moving your dish. STICK

Lets have a look at the pay packages on Hotbird.
TPS is open on some satellite boxes. Cyfra / N / Sky Italia are secure Nova is open IF you buy a £100 stirling card called a gamma card, and update it regularly I think Polsat is shut at the moment. To be honest with you 13E isnt very good at the moment - 19E is the place to be although you are probably well out of reach of 19E! BTW TPS will be leaving 13E in a few months. So looks like you need to be subscribing to one of these services.

Polsat reported open on the Diablo four days ago. Doubt if it's gone again just yet, but they do seem to respond fairly quickly to hacks these days with minor tweaks.
Don't know if Polsat were using the MECM fix, but if they were then the cupboards at Kudelski are looking fairly bare now. I'd like to know what the CABO fix/card rollout is about. Could be an expensive waste of time. TPS is going to 19E to physically merge with CanalSat following the corporate merger at the beginning of the year.

"SES ASTRA, an SES company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), has announced today that it has signed a new long-term contract with the French Pay-TV operator CANAL+ Group for the satellite transmission of its programme bouquet for the French market from ASTRA`s prime orbital position 19.2° East. Based on this new contract, SES ASTRA will transmit the full programming line up of CANAL+ Group from a single orbital position. CANAL+ Group has recently merged its pay-TV operations in France with that of TPS. In the agreement, CANAL+ Group takes several ASTRA transponders in addition to those currently contracted from SES ASTRA. The agreement therefore provides the satellite capacity which is necessary to consolidate the complete newly merged CANALSAT bouquet on a single orbital position. It will allow CANAL+ Group to broadcast and develop its complete High Definition (HD) satellite bouquet and will also provide further room for growth for Standard Definition (SD) services. Furthermore, the agreement provides and foresees a framework for the long-term growth requirements of CANAL+ Group. With this contract, we significantly enhance our position in the French market and further strengthen our relationship with CANAL+ as one of our most important European customers”, says Ferdinand Kayser, President and CEO of SES ASTRA. “SES ASTRA and CANAL+ have developed a strong partnership over the past ten years, and we look forward to continuing to provide satellite services of the highest quality and reliability to the merged bouquet. Broadcasting the new offer from one orbital position is undoubtedly the best solution for CANAL+ and its subscribers and viewers. SES ASTRA once again demonstrates its strengths and shows that it is the satellite provider of choice for important blue chip customers" http://www.ses-astra.com/corpSite/si...ases/index.php 19th January entry
