When buying a digital camera do you prefer built-in re-chargeable Li-ion batteries or do you prefer re-chargeable external AA batteries? I think re-chargeable external AA betteries are way to go because you can change them when they have completed their life but you can't do anything with the built in one.

Lithium Ion batteries have a long life span, they don't have the same kind of memory problem of it's predecesor ni-cad batteries. I would wonder if it would really become a problem, I'm sure I would be buying a new camera by the time the lithium battery would be something to worry about... You have a good point though... I think my vote is on the rechargable AA's as well...
Here's a pretty in depth article on battery comparisons if you're interested in finding the best batteries for your digital camera: http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM |

Man that is a tough one.. I have had both... I almost prefer the AA models.. because if you are out and about and the batteries die, you can carry an extra set. With a Li-Ion battery, unless you have the charger with you, you are SOL!!

Yeah, that really sucks when your battery dies and there's jack shhh you can do with it. It's easy to have extra AA's sitting around... I usually keep some in my trunk box anyways, along with a few emergency supplies like flashlights and first aid kits etc... You never know when you need a pair of AA's!

i agree with AA's too, theyre easy to recharge and keep track of and plus like the others said, you can carry spares which is good for me cause i go on long trips sometimes and i dont want to bring my charger for every single little thing!

The double AA are going to run out quicker, no dount BUT you can get them anywhere so you'll never be on vacation without the charger and not be able to take pictures. get the best of both worlds and buy rechargable AA's.

Lithium Ion have better capacity and thus last longer. My Nikon D50 will take well over 1000 shots before the battery runs out (though SLRs do last longer than point and shoot compacts). Anyway you can buy spares for all cameras all over the net Global-Batteries laptop, digital camera, camcorder batteries is one such place.
If you are going to go with AAs then go with Nickel Metal Hydride NiMH as they are the highest capacity out there. 2600mAH is quite typical. Hope this helps.
