This hasnt come up on the SES site yet, but has appeared on Media Network weblog
SES Astra has signed an agreement with British commercial broadcaster ITV to provide additional satellite capacity. The agreement, which increases ITV’s transmission capacity on Astra by half a transponder to six transponders, has been prompted by the growing demand for additional services and enhancements. It will be made available on the Astra 2C satellite which is about to be moved from the orbital position 19.2 degrees East to 28.2 degrees East in order to fulfill the high capacity demand from the UK and Irish markets. The move follows the successful launch of Astra 1L from Kourou, French Guiana, on 5 May. Richard Cross, ITV’s Director of Technology, said: “We are committed to providing the best services possible across our satellite platform, and the additional capacity will provide flexibility in providing those services going forward”. The bit I have bolded suggests to me this is for inteactive services, rather than ITV 1 regions, as you dont get many channels into half a tp.

Depends on the bandwidth of the tranponder

If it was a 72 MHz tp (as is available on EB1) then a HD channel would be a lot less than half a tp.
