Default Aerial needed?

Hi

I have just found water in my freeview box.....coming down the aerial cable
I've been thinking about moving to satellite and so now would seem a good time to give it some more thought
Forgive my ignorance but is it worth spending out on a new aerial/cable if I go over to satellite?

Thanks

Frank

ps...why am I getting the @ instead of 'a'' in cable?

Hi mate, :welc1: to the site.

I would say yes, definitely worth replacing the cable. Might cost £20 or so but that's a small price to pay when you consider the damage water could cause to you're Freeview/satellite receiver/TV if it gets into them

CT100 or equivalent will do fine, and don't forget to put some self amalgamating tape around the end at the aerial/dish to make it waterproof

Many forums have been closed down for talking about c@ble, Its something that is more or less banned on this forum

The word censor does this so that people searching for stuff using yahoo etc etc about c@ble hacking don't get sent here.

Its basically a safety feature to stop us getting linked to c@ble hacking discussions

Thanks to Kev and Nano for their replies.

I suppose my question should have been, 'do i need an aerial and cable if I move to satellite'.....I wasn't trying to be tight-fisted just unsure as to whether one is needed for satellite. Obviously, cables come down from the dish but I'm talking about terrestrial aerial and cable.....sorry to mention cable so many times but it's not that kind of cable

Welcome frankg4553.

While you are installing cable, it would be worthwhile putting two cables in so that the twin tuner receivers would work ok.

Although cabble tv chat isnt strictly forbidden here its a decidedly grey area.

1) if you allow cable chat some tw*t comes along asking about how to get all the channels back on his chipped box
2) as mentioned already many forums have been closed down in the last 2 years for allowing cable h&cking talk on them. The owner of the site has a distinct reluctance to spend time being questioned by HM Plods due to dubious comments about Televest boxes. As a (supposedly sensible although the regulars will tell you different) admin on this siteI aso have a distinct aversion to interviews with Dixon of Dock Green

So we scramble the word to stop the search engines picking up the word.

You could say that we try and limit cable chat to official stories which have some bearing on the world of satellite, though I'm keen to have as few 'rules' as possible.

I think Jim's point about twin coax runs is an important one, and a format which is going to become the de facto standard before too long. A large component of this is surely Sky's move to push Sky+ (a twin tuner box) as the entry level system - effectively doing away with their single tuner digiboxes.

It's hardly any extra work to run two cables as opposed to one, so just leave one flapping about under the carpet for future use.

You can use high quality CT100 satellite cable for terrestrial too, so there's your excuse.

Terrestrial utilises an aerial, whilst satellite obviously uses a dish, and you can't mix the two. The channel lineups on digital terrestrial and digital satellite are slightly different, so this might be a good place to start your investigation/comparison as to which will best serve your needs.

Satellite is definitely better though

More choice, and no reception problems.
