Default FTA, Freeview and Spanish channels Set-up?

Hi All

What would you recommend as a decent set-up for FTA, Freeview and Spanish Channel reception.
Receiver in the £100-£200 range possibly able to receive some encrypted channels ...haven't got a clue about dish cost so any advice there is welcome.
Does it make a difference if my TV only has one scart connection?
I'm located on the Wirral (Merseyside)

Thanks

Frank

80cm Global Orbit 80R dish, Inverto or any other good branded 0.2dB lnb, Technomate 1000D sat receiver. Probably around the £100 mark for this lot not including postage. This receiver is also able to open up some encrypted services once it has been patched with unofficial firmware

The 80 cm dish guarentees a good signal from Hispasat @ 30w or Astra 1 @ 19.2e where most of the spanish stuff is and it allows you to add a second lnb for 13e if you decide to line the dish up for 19.2e.

TPS (France) which has a lot of English language content is wide open on 13e at the moment.

Plug your DVD player into the VCR socket of the sat receiver and it should relay the signal to the TV when the receiver is in standby mode ( it works like that on my Technomate 1000 anyway) , or you can connect the receiver up through the RF (Aerial) input on the TV

I'm located on the Wirral (Merseyside) - You will be able to get most things with the 80cm dish

As Sid says they are a good receiver, i just can't recommend anything i have never used or seen working myself which is why i recommended the Technomate

Its safe to say though you can take anything Sid says about receivers as gospel

Thanks Nano...although I did mean £100 to £200 for the receiver alone...wouldn't expect to pay just £100 for the lot and get anything too good

Also thinking of 'motorized' dish?

Thanks Sid, I'll look into the vantage.

Nano, you say add another lnb...can you buy a dish set up where you don't have to add anything as they're already there...ie multi lnb's

If you go motorized you will only require one LNB.

If you buy a dish and multi LNB set up then you would still have to mount the multi LNB bracket and line them all up yourself. Their is no 'works right out the box' solution. They all need lined up whichever option you go for.

Personally I would go motorized as this gives you (potentially) more satellites. Unless you are going to want to watch more than one satellite at a time, which would require at least two receivers, then you would need to go multi LNB

I hope that makes sense

Hi Nano, once the question with free view came in it has to be a vantage.thx for saying on the ball. The vantage as the forum says,it kicks ass.Iv not loaded the last 2 firmwares yet.one says its doing mtc & redlight, the newest one i dont know whats on that that came out today. To me atm whats being opened on receivers,is going on the vantage first. The main thing with a receiver is what it can do without support.Lets say there was no soft for any pay tv,then what are you left with. Then the blind scan comes in,your not going to get a receiver that beats the vantage atm.Symbol rate is very good down to 1000,then there is the tuner in this one for weak signels.beat the tuner in a vantage in another receiver i will be very shocked. This means if your boarder line on watching a weak signel your see it.There been talk about cs as well.Im trying to think what it cant do.My only very small mone is when the vantage scans 16e on fta it brings in some pay channels like ALB.Apart from that its great,i can live with that.

Hi frank, now on a dish size.If you want satellite feeds dont go under a meter in size. Most people are happy with a meter dish, for the price diff 2 a 80cm dish,is that you wont see fedds from a 80cm. The first rule in satellite is your dish, many guys over the years have bought a 80cm & moved up to a meter in size. This is a rough guide for the uk.I look forward to hereing how you get on,once you have made up your mind what you by.come back & give us some reports once your set up.good luck.
from.
