Default Skystar 2 Setup w/DVBDream

Hello UK, Central U.S. here. Sounds like you will accomodate newbie questions. Just got my new Skystar 2 PCI card. Running Windows Home XP w/SP2 and all the updates that I know of. Pentium 4, 1.4 gig processor, 640 ram. Trying to receive Nimig 1, Echostar 7 and Echostar 6 & 8. These are circular polarity Sats requiring 11250 Freq LNB and 20000 Symbol Rates. The only way I can get a signal with my card is by going into Setup4pc and using manual settings, change the default settings of 10600 LNB and 22000 Symbol rates to those above. Then select a specific transponder and scan. Then I get a good signal but I can't seem to get it to retain those settings and imput all the other transponders. I have tried going into the Transponder Management window and scanning but it still just reverts back to the incorrect settings and I lose my signal. I know I have a strong signal because I have checked it with my Sonicview STB and am indicating a 100% quality signal. Have tried switching PCI slots, deleting and reinstalling software and drivers, etc. No changes.

Also, even when I am indicating a good signal in Setup4pc I haven't been able to get any signal in either DVBDream or DVBViewer. I am sure I am overlooking something simple but can't seem to figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi wefromo
When you changed freqs and scanned did you then save.Or maybe if you find transponder list in dvbdream maybe if you edit new freqs it may then scan and save.

Thanks Albert for your response. When I do a scan in the Transponder Mangement window it doesn't find any transponders in Setup4pc even when I imput the correct LNB freq and Symbol Rate. Nor do I have any option to save anything. The only way I can get a signal is to choose the "Status" window, select "Manual Settings", change the settings and scan but I can only select a single transponder. Then when I close the Setup4PC window I lose my signal. Also, I do not understand what Server4PC is about but I cannot get it to come up when I click on it from the programs menu but I keep getting a warning message, "Information for INT Network was not found".

Likewise, in DVBDream, I am getting "0" Signal and Quality even though I am selecting the correct Sat, have a good signal feeding in and DVBDream is selecting the correct settings. ?? Going to sleep on it now, maybe I'll toy with it again tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum wefromo.
I had a lot of problems with the Technisat software. It is necessary to tell the prog which sat you have installed in addition to doing a scan.

I would suggest you try the prog ALTDVB because it downloads the sat info from the internet and with the right codecs does some good work with the hd channels.

It is a far better programme than DVBDream IMHO unless you are using Vista when it can be a bit of a pig.

Hi
when you open dvb viewer go to channels.in root select 19 east or which sat your on.Then reception select satelite. Then go to transponer list.select astra 19.then click scan range. If you have already done this and still no results then it is on wrong sat.So test 28 or 13 east in same way.

Jimdefruit, Will try Altdvb maybe later today when I get a little time. Thanks. Albert, I'm in Central US so i cannot see the Sats you refer to. However, I took your advice and imput the Sat I'm locked on which is Nimig 1 @ 91.9 W, went into Dvbviewer, Channels, put in Nimig 1 and it scanned all transponders with good signal. However, I see no option to save those settings nor to save those in setup4pc and still cannot get any signal or channel in either Dvbviewer, My Theater or DVBDream. Again, I know that I am on the correct Sat and have a very strong signal feeding into my card because I have checked it by hooking my Sonicview STB to the Coax that feeds the card and confirming Sat and 100% Sig quality.

Thanks Albert. Read the page again and tried everything I can think of. It scans just fine and is apparently finding the Transponders because the little indicator turns from red to green on each one as it scans. But I still don't see any way to save the new found transponders. In the channel list I does not keep the Nimiq 1 and transponders. Anyway, thanks guys for the info. Just going to read and research for while.

I'm elated. Think I finally got it. Saw on another forum where several were having same or simliar problem. Here's the solution for the Dish and Bev Sats that I am interested in. Not sure about the others. In Setup for PC, in channels add the Sat (in this case Nimiq 1), then scan for channels, set LOF1 at 11250. SW at 12700 and LOF2 at 0. This is where I was going wrong. The default was LOF1 9750, SW 1170 and LOF2 1060 which I would have sworn was correct. Anyway, I still haven't seen any TV yet because the thing is still scanning but it is now coming up with the correct info and I am assuming it is going to work now. Will let you know. Thanks again.
