Default TM9100 Super on sale

As many people said - the latest TM9100 price drop was for a good reason.

Today some well known shop started to sell TM9100 Super. It looks like this is the same receiver as TM9100 but with double SDRAM memory (64MB vs 32MB). It cost 50 quid more.

Now waiting for support on TM9100 disappear in 5.. 4.. 3..

(and yes, I've got TM9100 too).

Actually, it is quite a mistery! The standard 9100 also got 64MB of SDRAM - this is written on its box and there are two 32MB Hynix chips on motherboard. How odd...

This is the modern world where what you bought yesterday is out of date today.

Fortunately, we are in an enthusiasts world where there will be a lot of support for quite a while. That is why I always go for the gear that is open architecture and so is not reliant on the manufacturers support.

Manufacturers have a limited support philosophy and stop support when they want to sell a new product. This applies to CAMs and cards as well.

Buy a linux based receiver and get continued support without having to spend more money every few months.

Agree That's why I went for this receiver - it is Linux-based.

Linux is a computer operation system. Unlike windows, it is open with lots of programming support, mostly free.

Linux based receivers are basically computers with a tuner built in. The tuner can be for satellite, cable or freeview.

Because they ae software driven, they are virtually unlimited in what they do and are easily updated.

Well... the official response from Technomate is that TM9100 indeed got 64MB of SDRAM, which is split equally between some hardware part and IBM CPU. The Super one got 64MB for IBM guy and 8MB for same hardware. Technomate response was that they don't actually need 32MB for hardware as they did some optimizations... Still can't see how they can justify 50 quid premium?
