Default German sat help

Hi all,

This is my first post, please be gentle

My wife is German and for the last 7 years here in England i've been using an old pace box (analogue) and recieving most of the German channels from the old sky anlogue sat, i still do.

After a visit to the out laws i decided to go digital for the german channels. So i now have a used Sky digital box.

I was told that the satillite is the same for German Digital as it is for analogue (using the old sky sat).

So today i plugged in the digi box and cannot pick up anything at all, its telling me there is no signal.

Anyone know if it does indeed use the same sat or is it totally different?

many thanks in advance,

Paul

Its looking for the "default transponder" on 28E Which it wont find as

1) you are on the wrong satellite (19E)
2) the lnb on the dish is almost certainly an old enhanced type and will need swapping for a modern universal type.

The ONLY way to use a sky box away from 28E is to Add Channels (services 4, 4)

Use the parameters from here:

http://www.flysat.com/astra19.php

(stay below 11700khz until you swap the lnb)

Then view the channels using Services 6.

Hi and many thanks for your help,

I cannot seem to do anything with the add channels, i can scroll up and down and change settings, but i do not see anything as 4,4.

What i do see on add channels is:

Freq GHZ
Polarization
symbol rate
fec
find channels

rgd's

First of all, :welc1: Chippy

Now, you are almost there:

When you get to where you were as stated in your last post with the Sky dodgibox asking for frequency, polarization etc, what you have to do is supply the necessary information: e.g. frequency = xyz; polarization = xyz etc and enter the info into the corresponding section.

But of course you have to get the right info to input from somewhere (you can't just pluck these things from the air you know ). For that you ca get the info from this site http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html .

For example, on that site you will see Bibel TV, Ocko TV etc grouped together in a block. To the left of their names you will see 10832 H. That means for those stations, the frequency is 10832 and the polarization is Horizontal (H=Horizotal; V=Vertical). Then to the right of the TV station names and up a little you will see 22000-5/6. That means the symbol rate to enter into the dodgibox is 22000 and the FEC is 5/6.

Enter those information rightly and "bob should be ya father's brother".

I am correct in thinking that even though the default transponder is 28e, i can tune into one of those frequencys and it will work?

thanks for all of your help so far

1. it is the default transponder of the dodgibox that is 28e because they expected the box to be used only for Sky; but indeed if you tune in other transponders as you have done and seen it will work (provided the frequency is either 22000 or 27500 - the dodgibox is limited, you see).

2. When you have entered the frequencey etc and the dodgibox has found the channels, you have to complete the operation by pressing the "Store" button which I think is the yellow button on the Sky remote.

One more thing: it just occurred to me that for the long term it may be worth your while to consider buying a non-sky receiver to replace the dodgibox.

Yeah, dump the digibox and buy a non-sky one. Some of the Sky boxes get homesick and just get all schizo on other satellites.

A nice little FTA box should work without all the hassle.
