Why cant we see genre designated transponders?
That would certainly help keep out the "bad" for those viewers, who only want the "good" clean viewing. |

I guess that doing it by transponder could be restrictive, but tagging the channels themselves with a variety of information (like RDS for example) could and should certainly be something on the list of things to do.

The thing to remember is that we are viewing the rest of Europe's television, and unlike Great Britain, most of Europe has no problem with female nudity and has different standards for suitable viewing ages.
On our television any Female nudity appears to be taboo, whereas male nudity seems completely acceptable, as shown in adverts and British programmes. On some channels, where naked women appear, you will notice an age recommendation of around 12, where we would instantly make it 18, and probably ban it, or not allow it to be shown in the first place, but as we are the ones viewing their television do we really have any right to impose our countries morality and codes of practise? The fact is that you have to go out of your way to receive these broadcasts and it is up to the individual, if they enter our satellite hobby, to use the parental control options, the rest of Europe doesn't have this countries nanny state approach. One of the reasons I decided to venture into this hobby, many years ago, was to view other countries television, mainly for the overseas test match cricket, back then the BBC only covered home tests, but one bonus was the fact that I could decide what I felt was suitable viewing, and censor it accordingly, rather than have other people decide for me. I agree that some of the material is not fit for children, but then again I have great reservations about some of British televisions output, but I still think it should be left up to the individual to block these channels, and not the state, otherwise what else might they decide to censor? |

I think I can agree with most of that. It's the encrypted 5-way gang-bangs I'd rather not have pop-up in the middle of Eastenders whilst I'm rebooting the Dreambox from a remote location that I'm worried about!
It's only the kids I'm trying to protect. They grow up too fast as it is, without me making it worse.

King of Sat does have to be highly reccomended,in that it lists channel categories.
For anyone starting out,its a excellent site, giving you far greater insight to the channels content. So anyone wanting to filter out certain channels, can do so easily, going on King of Sat's listings. However,a reminder that some Italian regional and some Italian football channels on Hotbird go from family viewing during the daytime and then revert to adult content, come the evening. ![]() ops:Yet they are still listed as General entertainment/Regional or Sport. |

OK, I think this is a well balanced and representative thread now, so I'm going to close it.
