Default Warning about some channels especially if a newbie !!!

Im relatively new to the SAT world , but enjoying every minute

One thing I noticed though when I set my system up , was the amount of " smutt" and not just the normal stuff either that’s available, there is lots and lots of it , now I have a young family and didn’t get it for that sort of thing , I realize we are all different and some might want to view it , but my kids use the system , and could have accessed this stuff ,

I had to spend ages going through each channel and locking them down ,

I hope ive found them all and all locked out now ??

I mean there is nearly 700 channels to go through ?

So I was thinking if someone was new to this stuff and had a young family maybe they might want to know about this stuff also.

Thanks cbrpaul.

You are quite right. Some naughty stuff, not really suitable for the kids.

(Can you PM me a list of them please?) - just kidding.

Regards,

Yorks

What a few topless slappers shaking their over siliconed titties at you?? Or some rough esastern European tarts wiggling their ars&s at you ??

Lets make this completely clear to anyone thinking of this hobby. You are NOT going to see hard core p*rn on the free channels. The most you will see is thae sort of stuff Ive mentioned above. Yes if you get into cams and keys to open a few channels up there is some fairly steamy stuff around, but thats not going to occur on most standard unmodded sat boxes.

Lets be perfectly blunt here to any folk considering sat tv as a hobby. If you are offended by female nudity then this is the wrong hobby for you!

I second that. Stick to the astra 2 on 28.2E satellite and you are reasonably safe. The continental satellite transmissions are totally without any censorship and shock even me - sometimes. ops:

The most worrying thing is that two of the normal film channels on Digitalb start steaming after 11 pm and it is easy to get caught out with the family present.

It is possible to put parental locks on the channels but it is easy to forget to reset it when updating the system.

You worry about 700 channels. I have over 5000 channels on my dreambox and that is only from 3 or 4 satellites.

When i was a newbie, guys , i didnt know even know the amount of sats up there

As for the names and locations

Once i learnt how to open channels , no-one told me to be careful , and I nearly got caught out ,ok my fault you can say , what do you expect!!!! fair enough i say !!!

But all im saying , if your new and setting up to what ever channel , please be on your guard

For those with young children , you will understand what i mean

Well pointed out cbrpaul.

We tend to take it for granted that there are fruity channels. Some unsuspecting souls might be shocked.

Good point; I had to warn my friend who got the TM 1500/Digialb deal that he would have to go through the locking of channels routine for the sake of his family; otherwise he had no clue about the "other" stuff.

Good thread.

Yes, the stuff you get on FTA can be a bit grubby, and maybe not ideal viewing for the kids, but nothing too serious. The unlocked stuff can be extremely embarrassing though, so you make a good point.

There is no way that I'm going to spend time filtering and editing 10,000 channels (or whatever the number is) and trying to keep on top of the situation that way, so I simply don't let the family use the Dreambox - it's just off-limits.

I put films on for the kids, football for the guys, and keep the porn for my wife and her girlfriends to look at.

LOL, I did show my Mrs a sample once and she nearly choked on her chocolate éclair! :roflmao:

But then again if your not offended and like that sort of thing then this is definitely the hobby for you

All i would suggest is that when you scan the sats do it when the kids are out playing or late at night when they are asleep. It will then give you plenty of time to either delete them or lock them out

To be honest the only time that porn ever gets put on my Dreambox is when I'm recording it overnight for the mucky buggers at work who have mostly just reached puberty

Mind you though i always set the timer for another channel for the time i go to work to make sure the kids and the wife aren't greeted by it first thing in the morning Its also password protected on my Dreambox just in case my daughter does figure out how to use it

Its also totally off limits on my Technomate as my 4 year old daughter uses it more than i do. Every channel is locked out to stop her watching them
