Default Exactly what do i need for a decent motorised setup?

Hi, i have only started looking into satelite in the past week or so, so please bear with me. I have purchased a Technomate 9100 receiver, mainly because it was on sale and i thought it was time to cancel my sly subscription and look into alternatives.

My goal is to put together a decent motorised satellite setup. Could you please recommend the best components for the list below.

80cm Dish (I have decided this is the ideal size but which one do i buy or are they all pretty much the same?) I think a black one, mesh would be best.
Motor? (This is where i need most help?) Which is the best to go for? Quietest? Quickest? Easiest to configure?
LNB (I do have one, 0.2 would this be ok? Made by lemon, came with the TM9100)
Positioner? (What is one of these?) Do i need one?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Also where is the best place to buy this equipment from?

Damn, just seen the sticky above "So, where do I start then?" Think this answers pretty much everything. Sorry.

However if anyone has any great suggestions for the equipment or where to purchase from that would be great.

Personally I've always found it a stupid concept of people replacing SKY with motorised kit, because there is simply nothing out there free or "open" that compares.

80cm wont be any good for footie feeds honestly, if there are any that's barely exceptable for 5e, 7e, 9e, 10e and 16e where the majority of all feeds from the Europe pop up.

Personally I've always found it a stupid concept of Paying over the odds for the twoddle that Rupert Murdoch would have us all watching if he ever acheives his dream of world conquest. I personally I think that Sky is cr@p and totally and utterly overpriced and something i could quite happily do without

There are loads of alternatives which do I think are considerably better than Sky

Fox on TV Cabo and D+ blow the pants off Sky One easily and there is more Films & sports on all the other channels available.

Basically its all down to personnal choice what you like or dislike. I just started to dislike the taste of Uncle Rupes broth let alone pay over the odds for it I went and looked elsewhere and liked what i saw

Theres no way i'll ever go back to Sky again. I just wish they would take me off their mailing list like i've been requesting for the last 2 million years >

How do you get Fox on TV Cabo and D+......is it by subscription or by a one off purchase of a card of some sort?
I too am not impressed by what Rabid Murdoch has to offer

These guys don't even know the concept of Widescreen probably let alone broadcast in it.

Basically D+ has been open for ages on most patchable receivers as to have TV Cabo,Premiere, DMC, & TPS.

Polsat and some Digitalb channel have also been open in the not to distant past

In other words if you get a receiver Like a Technomate TM1000, Vantage, Dreambox etc etc etc there is usually quite a bit open from the various birds above

(Patched = modified receiver firmware that opens up certain pay tv channels)

(Open = Viewable without paying for it)

You can subscribe to most packages if you feel the need to through various dealers in the UK although the price usually gets hiked up by the unscrupulous dealers so you end up paying twice as much as the viewers in the country it was intended for If you have family abroad you could get them to subscribe and send you the card No sat company abroad will send you the card direct to the UK due to licencing regulations and agreements You have to buy it through a UK dealer or of ebay

I have seen loads of widescreen broadcasts on D+ & TV Cabo :? Personnaly it doesn't particulary bother me if it is widescreen or not.

I'm quite happy with my old 25" Sanyo 4:3 TV. Its picture is crisp & Clean and it sounds fantastic and i can see everything in 16:9 as anyone with a widescreen TV so why change it just to get widescreen broadcasts without the black lines. I'm quite happy just to put up them above and below the picture and keep the £350 in my back pocket that i would have to spend on a new widescreen TV

Thanks for the replies guys, but getting back OT

I am in the South East, Kent. If i was looking at getting the 3pm football would an 80cm dish be sufficient.
Also what is a positioner?

And could someone please clarify that all i need is a Dish, Motor, Receiver and LNB?

Thanks for your help.

Dish, motor, Receiver, LNB and DigitAlb card and it's all systems go

I would think an 80CM would do OK in Kent though someone from down that end could probably give you a better idea on that.

A positioner, or a 'V' box, is used to move a 36V motor/actuator. A 4 core cable goes from the positioner to the motor while a coax goes from LNB to positioner and on to the receiver. Won't affect you though if you go for a DiSEqC motor
