Default New Toshiba Television

Just acquired a Toshiba 28 inch TV with a Freeview decoder built in. The quality of pictures is amazing, and that's through the wrong type of aerial which is pointing at 90 degrees to the main transmitter here in Scotland, Black Hill. I'm pointed to Millburn Muir in Alexandria and I should not be able to get pictures from that as it's only 250 Watts (not much more than a lightbulb, really), but I'm putting the correct type of aerial on tomorrow and pointing in the right direction for Freeview programmes. That's not the real reason for the question.

The TV has a CAM slot in the back - where do I get a CAM and what might it do?

Nice. I like the picture quality on the Toshibas, but find the sound quality lets them down a little bit.

The CAM slot is for a TOPUP TV CAM and card (which is SECA2, but I don't know if any other SECA2 capable CAM would work in it's place).

Used to be the onDigital system.

Going through a lot of changes at the moment in terms of channel lineup and such, with Setanta now showing the footy amongst others, and Sky threatening to join the party - though they have said they will use a propriety system built into a new range of terrestrial STBs much like the satellite digibox equivalent.

Thanks, Stick - I now have the correct type of aerial which is half the size of the old one, AND pointing in the right direction - all Freeview channels are coming through loud and clear and the analogue ones are better too. I boosted the bass response and the sound quality is OK too. Might wait a bit before acquiring a CAM so see what will be what.

TV has been dominated by the events at Glasgow Airport which is only 2 miles from where I live - scary stuff indeed!! Got the quality - all I need now is something interesting to watch.

Yes, the events at the airport and hospital have been a little worrying. Thankfully not too much in the way of human cost thus far.

All the stuff on the CAM is pay-TV so I wouldn't bother unless you find something that specifically takes your fancy.

@diapason
That CAM slot as far as TOPUP TV is concerned is useless,as TOP UP TV cards are no longer available.
It could be used by Toshiba,for any future firmware upgrades,which are not broadcast over the air.
