Default New and having problems setting up

Hi everyone,

Bought a Fortec Star sat dish and receiver from maplins.

Aligned sat to astra 2a but only get 50% signal quality.

When i change TP it can improve signal quality but then goes red.

Im really confused by this whole TP thing, what should it be ?

Also, why doesnt the box list Astra 2D and only 2A, are they the same ?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum crazylegs.

If you just put the dish up and then point it at a satellite, unless you have the elevation and skew correct you will likely get SFA.

Don't worry about the different As Bs Ds etc. The satellites are a group that appear as one sat at the location 28.2 east.

Have a look at the descriptions posted for dish installation. I think they will help sort your problem.

Welcome to the forum!

Some of the jargon can be really intimidating, huh?

It's quite simple really - just another sub-language to get used to I'm afraid.

TP = Transponder.

Each satellite 'location' has one or more satellites - hence the Astra 2A 2B etc.

The 'Sky' sats are all at 28.2E or so close as to not make any difference to your dish alignment.

Each satellite has a number of transponders - each one running at a different frequency. The transponder frequencies are unique for each orbital location, not just each satellite - or they would interfere with each other.

Most transponders are either horizontally or vertically polarised - another anti-interference measure - to allow the operators to squeeze more channels into the limited bandwidth.

Each transponder has a set Symbol Rate and Forward Error Correction value associated with it (if digital). You can look up what these mean in the Satellite Help Glossary.

See a list of transponders for 28.2E here:

http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html

Your receiver needs to contain a list of these, so that you can 'scan' through them, or you could try a 'blind scan' if your receiver supports it. This just scans everything, but usually takes longer.

did you move the dish up/down once you have found a signal to improve it and then twist the lnb clockwise tiny amounts to improve it further ?
